I get the following error when trying to send files from my inbox to the library. (these had already been organizedmanaged with MB 2.5 using the same rules)
i could still get reorganised if the tags were changed. In any case could you confirm you are happy to run a debug version so i can get to the bottom of why the error occurred and if so i will prepare one

Absolutely. Whatever will help. Also... In case this helps. I did remove all files from inbox, changed settings to add new files directly to library, rescanned, mb added all non problematic files to the library, changed settings back to import to inbox, rescanned and MB added the problematic files to the inbox. So I can see exactly what files are causing the error.

could you post a screenshot of the organisation rules and also the relevant tags in one of the problem files or send me a link to one of the files.
I have sent you a PM with a debug version link

I'll try to get all that for you in a little bit. I did some experimenting and found that all the problem files contain one of the following characters in one of the following tags.

Characters= *:?
Tags= artist, title, album

example.. one file had the artist "B*witched" I changed it to "Bwitched" and i was able to transfer it to the library. But it won'tlet me rename it. So it seems like its not replacing the illegal characters.

The only difference in my MB 2.5 and 3.0 setup is that in 2.5 I used separate reorganize entry for karaoke and music files. In 3.0 i am trying it with the same entry, just an exception line as you can see in the pictures.

(i couldn't figure out how to add images to this post)

in that case, open your settings file (help/ support/ view settings) and search for: <SystemInvalidCharMapping> to </SystemInvalidCharMapping>
and then PM values in between.
Trying myself using the invalid characters works fine for me and nothing has intentionally changed with the underlying file organisation code compared to v2.5

are all the problem files in the Karaoke folder ie. in the exception rule?

Yes. I changed a couple different things so can't say what would correlate.

both music and karaoke were managed by separate MB 2.5 libraries.
MB 3.0 had just the music.
I updated to the latest 3.0 patch, copied/pasted my organization rules from 2.5 to 3.0 and scanned in the karaoke folder.
This is when I noticed the problem.

You got me thinking and I tried something... I removed my exception rule to naming the music files. and added a completely different drive mapping for karaoke with the same naming rules and I can now send all the files to the library.

I just wanted to get the successful results posted real fast before you wasted any time on this problem... now I'll tell you a couple things I noticed and a question...

If I use the "add drive mapping" option so there are more than 4 mapping lines. The "proceed" and "close" buttons disappear off the screen.

in the rules settings it is possible to set a "on drive" setting. No two rules can use the same drive setting here. So even though my karaoke files are on the same drive I just changed it to something else and it still works. i don't understand the relevance of this. Is this going to mess something up somewhere else since I set it to drive "E:\" even though my karaoke is on drive "F:\"?

It would be nice to be able to open the splash screen from within MusicBee.
It's showing only very shortly when opening MB, and sometimes you might want to take a better look at it.

Maybe a link for that in the Help > About > 'About MusicBee' panel?

How is something like that even possible? A track of another band and an album with another title appears in the track list of the wrong album.

I don't know how this relates to the topic, GUI changes for v3.0, but:
either use Tools> Advanced> Rescan All Files
or check with Tag Inspector that you don't have some extra erroneous hidden tags.

Edit > Show in Main Panel cuts of Right Panel and shows a weird big white space in the middle with a big gray bar in it.
