Just discovered this. I've never really bothered with the compact player before, but this is very nice!

@iasc, with your config the picture now extends into the visualiser - i think it looks much better, but it does mean the cropping size has changed and hence the colours may change, and additionally because in that config the visualiser is not drawn on a solid colour the contrast might not be as great.

the new changes work well. there is still a lot colour in the spectrum so i am happy with it. thanks

Hi Steven,

Very nice work on this compact view.

1) Can the |> control bar be adjusted between the bottom and top of the compact overlay view like it can on the main view ?
2) Can this compact window allow for desktop level layer "z order" so that icons etc. can remain on top of it (i.e. Always on bottom) ?
3) Is there a way to adjust the transparency of the find bar ? (Sorry if this has already been asked)

Thanks in advance.

- The auto-hide scroll bar feature for sync. lyrics doesn't work everytime. If you change the layout (e.g. only displaying the lyrics, then adding bio and/or now playing list), then the scroll bar isn't auto-hidden (same if you hide/display the sync. lyrics with the new button). Restarting MB solves the issue
 - when 2 tabs or more are displayed in the right panel and "overlay panels onto background feature" is enabled, you can't click the minimize, maximize and close buttons.
these should be fixed now
I have also implemented the extra toggle for the panel open button so you can alternate between the primary displayed panel and the other ones

Just got around to trying this out.   The transparent player panel looks cool!

Took me a little bit to figure out where the Now Playing Panel went.  I agree with Bee-liever and KissCool.  I would like to have only lyrics displayed, and the Now Playing List as a pop-up.  In fact, I would be happy to have it all as a pop-up.

Also, is there any chance of getting the Love/Ban icon back in the player panel?  I tried displaying it in track details, but it didn't seem to work right and I didn't like the way it bloated the layout.

Edit: Testing new version now...

Update:  No new comments, except I'm getting some really erratic behavior with the show/hide right panel button in settings.  I haven't figured out the specific pattern yet, but sometime panels are showing up when they're not selected and the button has to be pressed twice to get it to work.  Oh, I see that that's the toggle feature. Could there be a better way to indicate what's happening in the settings?

And there's a display issue with the pause button.  It's kind of fuzzy.

The main thing is that until I can easily love/ban again, ideally in the player panel but at least with a pop-up now playing list, this new setup makes the compact player not worth it for me.  As pretty as it is.  :)

Final update: screenshot of pause button issue

A few bugs:

- Sometimes the overlay controls don't show (sorry I can't point the cause)
- When they show, they are over the album art. I undestand their current location is not definitive?

- The icon switches on the gear submenu don't change appearance to reflect the current state

- There are a lot of BG artist pictures in vertical format that have margins on both sides, which don't blend with the background. I think that this kind of images should be aligned to the right, and always blend them with a gradient to the BG fill color.

can you give a specific example as i cant reproduce any issues. How are you changing the current state and which control specifically are you refering to

The toggle through the RH panel states is great!  I think it may even be better than the original hover/pop-up panel!!  I can now quickly turn off the lyrics with well known tracks.  Very happy with this  :)

I also see that the progress bar is now showing with the "overlay player" setting on. Thank you.
Just a suggestion if it's possible, maybe just having the progress button visible would be a better look here, rather than the solid bar.

Added:
and I also like the default to Rdio style cover view if no artist pics can be found.
Truly excellent work.

1)
When you cycle through the right-hand pane, if you chose to display the lyrics and bio as tabs, the 2nd click just displays a blank panel.

2)
My mini player uses the 'modern layout' with the 'Windows Theme' skin, and all the graphics (buttons, sliders, rating, icons, visualiser, progress bar) are suddenly corrupted. Classic layout works fine though. I'm not sure if this is related to the work being done on the compact player, but I've only just noticed the problem after downloading the patch that is four posts above this post.

Can anyone else confirm similar corruption, or is it just my installation?

@ Anti
with 1): only tested with "track with thumbnail" and not having that problem. Now playing shows on second click.

with 2): yes. I can confirm the button images are corrupted in the Mini player when using "Windows Theme" skin

Sorry, my fault. I don't know which skin color controls the disabled icon.

Also, about the BG artist picture, now it shows like this:

maybe it would be better like this (or aligned to the left to avoid being overlaid by the right panel)

Changes looking good so far. How about alternating list colors for the regular compact layout?

because of the way windows works and i have implemented, the overlay player will only draw on the artist background. Its possible i might change that when i look at the album cover-only layout

Default view:

1st click (note that 'lyrics' and 'bio' have been chosen in the 'customise panel' settings)

2nd click (right panel is now blank)

However, If I deselect either 'lyrics' or 'bio' from the 'customise panel' settings, then whatever I deselected appears on 2nd click.

Thanks for the confirmation. I'll fill out a separate bug report for that issue.
