I like the new layout. One request I have is to allow a fully opaque background picture (no darkening) with the overlay panels view.

Also,  as I indicated a while back, I still see the Menubar, maximize, minimize buttons in current configuration as major distractions.  But happy to see some work done to the playercontrol in that direction.  However, I really do not think that the background for the visibility of the player-control is  really as necessary.  They will likely be visible on every background in one form or another.. some just not as good as others,  as is the case for some other players.
They are not lazy... just more efficient.

Thank you as usual Steven, but I think I misunderstood the direction the changes were going.
you need to enable "overlay player onto the background feature"

I did, which is why I said that  part is going on the right direction.  Thanks.

All of those can be configured thru settings:

Also I'm not a fan of the thin progressbar on bottom. Whenever I have to use it I end up clicking too high or too low, making the resize cursor appear or even clicking on whatever window is behind :P
I feel like it requires too much precision, which is not good for an action that shoud be fast and unwitting. Also not good for modern touch devices.

If you want to keep it on the bottom, my opinion is that it shoud be thicker.

Redwing,
But note that they become visible on hovering .

Sincerely, I like the old button layout better. Back/Play/Fwd on the left (and without borders), and volume and other buttons on the right.
yes i agree - it was a bit experimental but i have changed it back to left aligned for the non-transparent player controls bar, but with the new search and controls icon instead of the 4 buttons previously. I will post a download link later

i doesnt look good with it thicker. What i will do is increase the click height

But note that they become visible on hovering .
i agree its better if the close/restore buttons are permanently displayed and drawn onto the picture. As to the menu button on the left i will probably set it to permanently display but keep the solid background

What I'm missing the most is shuffle button (when overlaid). Now turning it on and off is not easy.

I was expecting overlaid, auto-hiding controls to be like this...

i like how you have laid out the player controls but where would you put the track position?

i'm reluctant to add it back in as it would likely make layout of some configurations harder (space constraints)
is it mainly because it requires 3 clicks as opposed to 1 click? and how often would you change it?

The frequency depends on what I'm playing  e.g. a filter vs. an entire album. I could use a hotkey for shuffle, but there's no indicator either to show the current shuffle mode. Probably I would return to main player to adjust the shuffle setting and come back.

Something like the new miniplayer?

You can even reuse the code, and it should make the interface more uniform across different player sizes.
Also depending on the width of the right sidebar you could fit more/less icons, like the new miniplayer interface.
