@iasc, it should have been resizing the pictures when there is a significant gap but i see there was a bug so hopefully it works better now
additionally i have further tweaked the colouring used to fill the gap areas along the lines suggested by beeliever

that did it, picture size is back to normal.  thanks

just wanted to ask is it intentional that there is no opacity on the area with the track details/album art?

Not to detract but seeing as how all the talk of new versions goes on in here...
When are we likely to see a stable 2.1 release? I know there is some more work getting the compact layout refined/done but is there a good point to lock in changes and put out a 2.1 exe?

Also there is now an option to auto-hide the player controls
Thank you!

Maybe the fill pattern will be the effect that works for both areas, otherwise, I think reverting back to the coloured fill (maybe darkened a bit?) would be the best compromise.
+1, but not darkened: you end up with 3 gradients of the same color (main picture background, visualiser backround and track info overlay). IMHO, 2 is enough.

All the corners of the compact player are squared. Thx. But it doens't fix the main player top corners. Those are still rounded. Also noticed this on top compact player corners:

Not so important since you don't see this dark pixel without zooming in. Just wanted to mention it

"<element id="UseArtworkBorders">false</element>" doesn't affect compact player and "now playing" view (tab or bottom):

Same thing for the scroll bar of the compact player (setting: overlay the right panel onto the picture, show lyrics)

<element id="ScrollBarMargin">7</element>, <element id="Panel.ScrollBarBackground.Default" bg="" bg2=""/>, <element id="Panel.ScrollBar.Default" bg="" bg2=""/>, <element id="Panel.ScrollBarThumb.Default" bg="" bg2="" fg="" bdr=""/>
None is working. Even tried those ones:
<element id="Controls.ScrollBarBackground.Default" bg="" bg2=""/>, <element id="Controls.ScrollBar.Default" bg="" bg2=""/>, <element id="Controls.ScrollBarThumb.Default" bg="" bg2="" fg="17,17,17" bdr=""/>

And last but not least, one more wish!  ;D

Could we have a setting for the transparency of the overlay  (setting: overlay the right panel onto the picture)?
Something like the one for "application window":

But starting from "none" (no overlay) to opaque.
(or at least a really lighter overlay. IMO, it's too opaque atm)

the new behavior is already implemented in the link above. Depending on the layout and picture size, if the track info is not overlayed into the picture then it shows as a slight linear gradient between the spectrum and the picture gap fill colour which is slighly darkened as compared to the spectrum colour

I would say i will close off development in this version after doing the Album Oriented track details view, which i would guess will be another month off. Then i will leave it another month for any bugs to be fixed so probably mid to late July.
But i think you are quite safe using the beta versions from the first topic on the forum

it can now be set in the 2nd tab of the compact player settings.
Thank you.

But it seems that the overlay override the lyrics. The overlay should be applied on the main picture only. Lyrics (cover and track info too) should be on top.
And could the panel overlay start from 0 instead of 0.40, please?

Nice work Steven
Like the latest version, especially the implementation of KissCool's overlay transparency adjustment suggestion.

I still can't help wondering what this would have looked like:
the last thing i will try is still keeping the fill area black but putting in a subtle fill pattern using the dominant picture colour

just have to say that the latest changes with the player controls auto-hiding and the ability to adjust the transparency of the right panel overlay are really amazing.  this thing looks unbelievably good now!  thank you steven and all who contributed feedback and ideas along the way.

?? i am not sure what you mean exactly as theright panel such as lyrics will be displayed on the picture in this mode. If its what i think you mean then it can not be accomodated
