Thank you redwing.  Looks better but I end up with this (ignore the adjoining title) :

- vertically oriented artist pictures that have too much (>75% height) cutoff are now sized so the height fits the panel

Maybe something similar can be done for horizontal pictures too?

I prefer the visualiser from 2 updates ago « Reply #170, the visualiser seems to be just shades of grey for the majority of cases now

The normalizing effect by resizing remains the same as unimplemented.



I'm sorry but I really wonder on what grounds someone would prefer the top to the bottom.
The top looks fuzzy, unnecessarily complicated, and makes it hard to discern where the divider is with all those spikes.
If it's technically impossible to implement the bottom, I'd understand. But if it's possible, please let me understand the rationale behind it. I know I've been repeating the same thing, so this will be last time I'd voice regarding wave bar.

Yeah, but sometimes the colors it picked were *way* off.

But I'd take the *way* out purples and eye-watering yellows over the bland greyness of the moment  

Alexis post with Rod Stewart and mine with Linda Ronstadt, with the blue and red (respectively) visualisers look great.

Surely there's a happy medium somewhere?

I find myself hitting the bee icon and then 'open playlist' a lot.  its actually pretty convenient as it is.

I've only just noticed this, it's actually a much nicer way to browse the playlists than viewing them in the main panel, very handy indeed.

I prefer the top one by a long way. The smoothed out version is misleading to me. As someone who is involved in music production and is used to looking at waveforms I prefer the ability to see all the peaks if they are there. The bottom one is ok for a vague overview (which I understand is what this is really) but I find it hard to see how you would prefer the smoothed out version.

I know what waveform means and how important those peaks are when I edit sound files. But you're not editing sound with compact player, right? If I'd like to see those detailed peaks and spikes, I would use a big wave bar like TM (probably another software), not compact player. And, with the bottom, you're still getting most information the top offers. Besides, this is not just a look but a functionality related issue since that hampers usability of the divider. Don't you feel it looks fuzzy?

I don't know what divider you're talking about. No, I don't think it looks fuzzy, in fact I think the smoothed out version looks fuzzy. I do quite like the smoothed version but I wouldn't use it myself if I had the choice, there is a lot of information that is lost in the example you posted. I often look at the waveform to get an idea of what the mastering is like and how it was done but the smoothed out version completely destroys any information you can get about that. It may be a useful version of the waveform but to me it is very inaccurate and not particularly useful.

hadn't actually noticed that myself so scratch that request. love the new small artwork option, i previously only had the artist picture showing as the artwork covered to much.

i have to agree with Bee-liever, i personally think the more ostentatious colors just added to the look.

I'm also curious if there is information on that? Is it showing something about dynamics, or frequencies or anything like that?

Would it be possible to disable this 'two-tone' look through skinning?

I'm impressed with how the new compact player turned out.

I don't quite understand the designation 'flat layout' for it.
Wouldn't something like 'modern' or 'deluxe' be more fitting or descriptive?

I still lean towards "Plus" layout:
it's the "Classic" layout...
plus colour enhancements
plus lyrics
plus Artist pic
plus Artist bio
