Because the intellectual property of AmpliFIND was sold to Gracenote, MusicDNS is being discontinued. I would like to know if you can start using either Acoustid or Echoprints because these audio fingerprinting services are free and open source.

Here the following sites:

http://acoustid.org/
http://echoprint.me/

I hope to hear which fingerprinter works best for MusicBee.

I've just started looking at the Echonest API but I have to say it's really good:

They look at the track attributes (tempo, genre, key) where Last.fm looks at who played tracks/how often/by session/etc.

Using a Taste Profile: http://developer.echonest.com/raw_tutorials/catalog_api/what.html
Limiting similar artists to a taste profile: http://developer.echonest.com/raw_tutorials/catalog_api/what.html (very handy for creating an AutoDJ)
They also keep track of news and blogs related to the artist: http://developer.echonest.com/api/v4/artist/profile?api_key=FILDTEOIK2HBORODV&name=weezer&bucket=news&bucket=blogs

You can also send tracks to Echonest for scanning different attributes like key and tempo.

I would like to agree on such important feature of tagging organization, Acoustic Fingerprinting. I just switched to MusicBee for being a superior player and having Discogs capability but sometimes you just have to have the reliability and effectiveness of fingerprinting services. This is the reason I haven't let go of Winamp entirely (not the only reason) because it offers the most established service in it's class, Gracenote. I do understand though it requires fees, but the above poster, Alainn, did suggest helpful additions and nonetheless free open source alternatives, thanks. I seriously think MusicBee is the best player found in the internet, amazing program.

Great! I believe MusicBrainz' AcoustID will be the next generation fingerprinting service.
edit: Since their's Winamp Plugin support for "in_*.dll", is it possible to implement ml_autotag.dll ;)? Or have a context menu to send selected songs directly to the enqueue of Winamp? Or better yet, directly to the "Send to -> Auto-Tag" window without any gracenote permission hassle? That would be golden and certainly a temporary solution to use both Gracenote's massive library together with AcoustID's promising system. Thanks.
