MusicBee currently does not pass the Windows 8 SmartScreen filter. This might be alarming for new users. I don't know what the cost of getting a CA certificate is but it might be valuable to look into.

Also, it would be cool if MusicBee was in the Windows Store!

How much does a CA certificate cost? Maybe consider donating an appropriate amount towards it if it's important to you

i recall reading that its not a requirement to get a certificate and that eventually an app will make enough points so it no longer raises that dialog.
When i get time i will confirm that

I finally found a couple of articles about how SmartScreen works. You are right that you can build reputation over time.

And apparently the EV certificate costs $499/year haha so nevermind about that.

SmartScreen seems like a fairly blatant method of forcing developers (all developers) to distribute their software via the Microsoft app store. Because an application installed via any other means is obviously a hard drive formatting, credit card skimming, eyeball exploding virus, right?

I can see this OS sanctioned FUD killing a lot of hobbyist freeware projects.  :(
Bee excellent to each other...

I still can't see W8 taking off as a standard laptop/desktop OS so I wouldn't worry too much about that. Where I live they're marketing it with tuitions on how to use it. W7 will continue to be the 'standard' OS for sometime I think. I'm derailing the thread now though so back on topic..
