Hi. I'm trying to configure MusicBee to send DoP to my DAC, from native DSF (DSD) music files (2L Records). Windows 10.

I tried Foobar2000 with the DSD plug-in and it works good. The DAC displays "DSD" received (1x, 2x, and 4x).
I tried JRiver with the DoP setting and it works good. The DAC displays "DSD" received (1x, 2x, and 4x).
With MusicBee the DSF file is converted to 88.2kHz PCM.

I read on a Google search that I need to manually configure MusicBee for DoP output. Apparently this is found in the Preferences =>  Player => Audio Player and then selecting the CONFIGURE box. But the CONFIGURE box is not selectable. Dead click. On the DSP screen, nothing is selected (no EQ, no level shift, etc). I can select ASIO and then CONFIGURE, but this DAC has no ASIO drivers. This DAC uses the audio drivers in Windows, only (WASAPI Exclusive).

Any ideas?  (screenshot link below)

p.s., where do I find the revision/version level of the installed MusicBee build?

- What version of MB are you using? (Help > About) INCLUDE THE LETTER (if any) AFTER THE NUMBER
- How was MB installed? (Store, Installer, Portable)
- Regarding your screenshot, hover over the red exclamation mark and tell us what it says.
- There is no published list of revisions other than in the "latest version" section of the forum. But that only lists changes/bug fixes/etc for the version listed. Steven issue patch updates almost weekly and other than reading the forum regularly you won't know what's been added/fixed.
- Patch updates are always available via the link in my signature below. The easiest way to determine if what's there is a new patch is to check the "last modified" date shown.
Download the latest MusicBee v3.6 patch from here.
Unzip into your MusicBee directory and overwrite existing files.

1. Just installed it from the website about 4 hours ago. Not portable, on a Win 10 desktop PC. v3.6.9202
2. Exclamation hover -- see image at URL below. The exclamation point is permanent, nothing seems to remove it.

Installer or MS Store version?

It will disappear if you choose an  output other than WASAPI (Exclusive) but your first post says your DAC can't use anything -but- WASAPI (Exclusive).
Have you -tried- any other output?  Does the DAC work?

About the "!", if you hover over it you should get a pop-up message for newbies stating that using wasapi-exclusive will prevent any other system sounds to be heard.

MusicBee will play DSD over DOP for certain sample rates when using ASIO drivers configured correctly.  DOP is a stream transport method that encapsulates raw DSD into a PCM wrapper.  The wrapper is then discarded at the DAC and the raw DSD reassembled, resulting in bit-perfect DSD exactly as if the "stream raw DSD data" option was used.  It is also not dependent on special USB drivers to handle DSD..

About the ONLY hard data we have on this is from personal tests done by hiccup 5 years back (https://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=34298.msg187960#msg187960).  It is likely to remain so unless other DSD users, which seems to be an extremely small group based on the lack of response, provide some of their own experiences here.  I do not own a DAC.

About your lack of ASIO drivers, have you tried the Realtek site (https://www.realtek.com/Download/List?cate_id=593), or the Microsoft Update Catalog (https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/ScopedViewInline.aspx?updateid=3b0cc198-361d-4c99-ac77-bd116c97c4f3).  For the latter the update would need to be done via Device Manager "Update Drivers" then point to the package.  But you said your DAC supports ONLY Wasapi Exclusive, so...

Finally, you could try one of "ASIO emulators" that ride on top of Wasapi Exclusive like ASIO4ALL, FlexASIO, etc.  If you find a working solution please share it here.

Installer from the MB website.

I should have said we "prefer" Wasapi Exclusive (especially for Qobuz and Tidal). But I just checked, and the DAC works fine playing DSD (DSF) files with Music Bee's (1) Direct Sound (PCM 96k), (2) Wasapi Shared (96k PCM), and (3) Wasapi Exclusive (88.2k PCM). In each of these options, the CONFIGURE box is not accessible. It is only accessible from the ASIO setup.

According to user @sveakul, an ASIO driver is required for MB to package DSF files into DoP. Is that your understanding as well?

Sveakul knows more about that then I do. If he says an ASIO driver is required then you should try it.
