Hi there,

I tried searching for this question and an answer, but I could only find an answer for custom tags, and mine is about the basic tags. I have a large music collection that is not very well organised because a lot of file lack metadata (artist, album, song title etc) in the actual file.

In MB it's very easy to add those to the songs (much easier that in windows explorer), but the changes don't seem to end up in the actual files, which would be great since I also add my own music files in my streaming service, especially special editions that tend not to be on the streaming service but to me are the better versions of songs.

Is there any way to make sure any metadata changes will also end up in the actual files? Maybe a setting I'm not seeing, an add-on or would I need a different app for that?

If I missed a topic with this question, please refer me to that discussion.

Thanks for the help in advance!

Welcome to the forum RB1983

All 'basic' tags will always get saved into the files themselves.
What makes you believe that that isn't the case?

PS
Use MusicBee's 'Tag Inspector' to see the tagging information that is present in the files.
Maybe you are using other software or applications that are failing to show 'the truth'?  ;-)

(file types and metadata protocols/versions may also play a role here, so it would be good if you could be specific about that in further posts)

Well, I added a new file to my music folder. An mp3 with only a filename, no other info. I found it in MB and started adding the tags.

I did this about an hour ago, but the file in Windows Explorer still shows no info. It's completely blank still. Even after closing and restarting MB. The info in MB is there still.

Is there a delay? If there a setting that should be on or off in the menu?

Does the tag info that you added show up when using MusicBee's Tag Inspector?
If so, it is definitely present in the files.

Not sure why 'your' Windows Explorer wouldn't show it.
Perhaps some screenshots may be needed to show what you are looking at exactly.

I tried some other songs and they do change...so it's a blocking in the file...not in MB. Now I just have to figure out how to get the block of the file. But that's not for here!

Tnx for thinking along. Now I know it had to work, I knew to try something different.

Where do I find tag inspector? It's all kinda new still to me.

Yeah, looking at it from a newbee perspective, it's not very obvious.

1. Open the tag editor
1a. If the Tag Editor panel is docked, click the icon left to the close (X) icon
1b. If the Tag Editor panel is floating, click the tag Inspector 'tab'

2. Create a shortcut/hotkey for it: Edit: Inspect Tags
