Hi,

Sorry if this has been asked before, I do know the rule, but haven't time to go through all the threads.

Sometimes when I add a song with the same name as another song, MB will play entirely the wrong song. This happened, for ex., with The Police 'Wrapped Around Your Finger', but it has happened before.

Any advice?

Thanks.

Suppose you were not you.
Would you understand what not not you is saying?

Lol... don't do that hiccup!  I almost sprayed my screen with Dr Pepper when reading that.

If I am understanding correctly?  The song title: "Wrapped Around Your Finger" has duplicates.
It could be the song from Sting (EG The Police), or Vernon from DE, or The Cranberries.

My collection is small compared to others on this forum.  Perhaps one of the smallest.  So I confess I have not run across this issue myself.  MusicBee always plays the track I double-click on so - no advice here.  Hmm.  I have all my tracks in a single folder named: <artist> - <title>.  So there can be no duplicate names.  Maybe you are sorting into separate album folders so files could have the same name?  If this is the case you might try prepending the artist name to the file to make them unique.  Though I cant think of a reason this would make a difference...

Note: You would only need to try this on tracks with names duplicated elsewhere... not the whole library.

Say I add a song with the same name as another song.

Instead of the song I added, when I click on that song, another song with the same title or similar will play - and not one I have in my library.

So say I added Tainted Love by Soft Cell, it might start playing the 60s version instead, even though that song is not even in my library.

Yes, except there are no duplicates because I do not have any other song with this name. It's the file labelled as by the Police, and which is the Police song, starts playing what seems to be a 1970s song by a woman.

Hmm interesting.
The only thing I can think of is the file(s) are mis-tagged as different songs somehow.

So right click one of the tracks and choose edit to go to the tag editor.
Click on the [properties] tab.
At the bottom [location] will be the physical path of the track :: To verify it is pointing where you think it is.
If it looks OK navigate to it with Windows Explorer and play it with Windows Media Player :: To verify the song/ track is not mis-tagged as a different song.

I can't of anything else it could be.  If it is not the above then... I got nothing.

Thanks. I will try this next time it happens.
