Hey MusicBee fam,

So, something weird just happened.

I have a few songs on my desktop & when I clicked on one to play, it didn't....but...MusicBee opened.  (And didn't do anything.)

I tried playing songs in my folders, but, the same thing happened.

Funny thing is, if I click on songs in the actual MusicBee player, they play fine.

I'm thinking I might need to re-install it, but, I just thought I should check with you guys first.

Thanks!

Compare the location (path) of the one of the desktop and the one in MB. You can see the path of the one in MB by opening the Tag Editor and clicking the Properties tab. The path should be at the bottom.
Download the latest MusicBee v3.6 patch from here.
Unzip into your MusicBee directory and overwrite existing files.

Hey phred,

I'm so sorry, but, I'm not sure that I understand.

I went into MB & couldn't find the Tag Editor. I saw tagging tools, but none named "Tag Editor" specifically.

And, I made sure that MB is the default program for music files.

I think I messed something up somewhere.

Thanks again for your help!

EDIT --- Congrats on over 10000 posts!

* Select a song -> [Shift]+[Enter] (unless you have changed the default hotkeys)
OR
* Right-click on a song > Edit

-> select tab "Properties"
-> the file location (path + filename) is displayed at the window's bottom

Hey hey, karbock,

Thanks a lot for writing.

I followed your instructions, but, I don't have an 'edit' option on the right-click.

--- And when I tried > [Shift]+[Enter] , nothing happened.

Thanks again!

Make note of it.

Then right-click on the same track that's sitting on your desktop and click Properties. The file location (path + filename is shown towards the middle as "Location:"

Do the two locations match?

This has to be done from within MB.

I'd still like to see the screenshot from within MB showing the file's location. But from the screenshot you sent they both seem to be actual files and not shortcuts. Trying to play the one on the desktop should bring up MB and should play the file. Can you confirm that it doesn't play at all? Are you clicking or double-clicking? Although I don't think it matters as it is opening MB. I have to admit I'm a little stymied by what you're reporting.

Here's the screenshot you asked for! (I hope I didn't do it wrong.)

And yes, I can confirm that the file doesn't play (from the desktop & the actual music folder. I've tried right-clicking & double-clicking, too.) And, MB is set to the default music player.

---I'm really sorry that I'm not explaining this very well. I do appreciate you sticking with me.

That's the screenshot I was looking for. Unfortunately, something very odd is going on and I can't understand it.

- Do -any- songs play from the desktop or from their folder from File Explorer?

- Open MB and on the left sidebar navigator, scroll down until you see "Computer." Go to C:\Users\Aaron\Desktop and click it. You should see "Suicidal Thoughts" in the Main Panel. Double-click it or right-click and click "Play Now." Does it play?

- What version of MB are you using? Include the letter after the number if there is one. Help > About

Phew! Okay, good.

And no, none of the songs play at all from the desktop or their folder.

And nothing played via the "Computer" step.

-- I'm thinking I should just cut my losses & re-install.

What do you think?

Try these settings in Prefs/Now Playing:

Hold off on the reinstall for a bit as someone else may have an idea.

Open MB's Preferences > General > file types. Is enable MB in Windows Explorer and contest menus" checked? If not, check it and also check MP3 and Save. Then restart MB, and try the desktop track.

When was the last time you restarted your PC?

Again - What version of MB are you using? Include the letter after the number if there is one. Help > About

Dude!! phred!!

I followed your instructions to edit the General > File Types & it's working!! ( The boxes weren't checked.)

You have absolutely noooooooo idea how much I appreciate what you've done for me. If I knew you, I'd definitely take you out for a few steaks & beer.

You're an absolute genius. Legit.

The Forum is definitely lucky to help you.

Again, thank you so much.

Be well!

Again, thank you so much.
You're quite welcome. It took some digging, but I'm glad to hear the issue is resolved. The offer of steak and beer is quite appealing but save it for yourself as you sit back and enjoy your music.
