This is on the latest MusicBee 3.6.9108

When using the option "Play Now" and sub-mode "clear list and play album only" or "clear list and play all tracks", it works as expected with music albums.  When invoking Play Now on a podcast episode I would expect just that episode to queue and play;  however, it now treats an entire podcast series as an album and will queue the entire podcast instead, just like if you invoke Play Now on a track in the middle of an album.  This was not the behavior in MusicBee 3.5.x, however that had some other issues with queuing podcasts using Play Now.

I don't know how it worked on v3.5 and it might be just me, but the above sounds like the correct/expected behaviour.
A series of episodes in a podcast is an album grouping in the true sense (if they follow your album definition in the preferences).
Your expectation falls in line with "clear list and play selected tracks only".

Unless this option got reset when I updated, on 3.5 it would clear the queue, then queue and play the single podcast episode.  Maybe we just need a separate option for double-click behavior on Podcasts and Albums?

I am trying just now with v3.5 and "clear list and play all tracks" does play all tracks in the subscription. I dont think that has been changed in v3.6

as Mayibongwe states "clear list and play selected tracks only" should behave like what you want
