I am i the process of building my playlists. I am trying to avoid duplicates and I know if I try to put in a song twice a warning will pop up, but is there something in place or a setting that I can choose if I try and put in the same song which may appear on several albums? Like you've already added this song or similar from album xyz, do you want to add it again? At this point I have not discovered that option, so after the fact I am manually going thru my playlists and removing any possible duplicates...

I believe that warning of duplicate tracks being added to a playlist is the default behaviour (duplicate track being based on <Artist> and <Title> tags - the <Album> tag should not make any difference here).
This warning can be disabled in Preferences > General > confirmations (first item in this section).

It's working correctly for me so maybe you have disabled the warning or perhaps the tags are not consistent?
