Catalogue Number tag field in MusicBee and it's handling of metadata fields

Hi again,

another question I've had for a long time (beside the one about artwork linking) is about the use of other, natively unsupported metadata fields in MusicBee.

For the longest time I've been searching for the possibility to edit 'CATALOGNUMBER' or 'CATALOG NUMBER' field from track metadata inside MusicBee. As MusicBee does not natively support this field, I've been trying to make workarounds. Custom tags are one thing, but I really want this edited data to appear in track metadata under this field as well.

I've been struggling for some time now to find a way for MusicBee to read and to display this field, but found no solution. Is reading special metadata fields even possible inside MusicBee via Virtual Tags or anyhow?

This is precisely what MusicBee's custom tags were designed for.
Follow this link for an in-depth tutorial on how to set up one.

MusicBee has the most commonly used tags available out-of-the box.
But there may be tags that you would like to use that are not available by default.

You can use MusicBee's 'Custom Tag' feature to create such a new tag.
There are no less than 20 of those available.  (MusicBee v3.6)

Some obectives for creating a custom tag can be:

-  making a currently unavailable tag available for use in MusicBee
-  making a currently unavailable tag available for another purpose
-  making a tag that was written by other software and is invisible in MusicBee available

Haha, don't be. We all have to start somewhere.
The credit goes to the guys who over the years, have posted tutorials across the forum and wiki to make the MB learning process relatively easier.
If it makes you feel better, I still see those same guys admit from time to time that they still learn new things about MusicBee to this day.

I mean, truth to be told, I've been a MusicBee user for quite some time now (a few years, I suppose), but I never really wanted to dig deep into metadata since I always almost lose my mind when it comes to it. Dealing with different musical formats can really be a pain sometimes.

Hahah, that does make me feel a bit better but that's good - MusicBee seems to be such an incredible software that the opportunities to dig deeper into technicalities will never fall short.
