In this topic from nearly 13 years ago(!), Stephen agrees to add the ability to split the "publisher" tag with a semicolon, in the same way you can with the "artist" tag among others, to allow multiple publishers for each song:
https://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=4451.0

Further posts in that topic say that it had indeed been implemented, but I've updated to the latest version of Musicbee (3.5.8698) and am still unable to do that. I know you can achieve the same results with a custom tag but, since it seems like it's supposed to work, I thought I'd ask for a bug fix. Hope that's okay!

If you have two values in the field separated by a semicolon, do they show up separately in the tag inspector?

Just checked, it appears as a single entry in the tag inspector.

That indeed looks like a promise (an intent) not kept.
Most certainly not a bug though.

And, simply out of curiosity:
Are you indeed entering all the publishing companies that have published a specific release by hand?
(I already get tired only thinking of such an effort ;-)

PS
I'm not sure a  [...]  button should be added for this, since I think 99.999 percent of the users would never think of adding multiple publishers by hand.
So in my opinion it would be adding some sort of visual clutter that hardly anyone would ever use.

There are comments later in the thread that state that it was implemented though.

Yeah, I do all my tags by hand  ;D  I like zoning out listening to music and tinkering with metadata!
I use the Publisher tag as a stand-in for "Record Labels" and there are plenty of records that have more than one label, even on the same specific release. Obviously not the end of the world if I have to use a custom tag for it but it would be nice if I could just use Publisher.

I'm not looking for a [...] button, just the functionality that comes with being able to split a tag.

Out of interest, what are you finding that does not work for you when you enter multiple publishers split with a semicolon?

It seems to split them for the Thumbnail Browser:

and the Column Browser:

Just the functionality of metadata entry, so when you enter a publisher and then a semicolon the autofill starts over for next publisher, which is a huge timesaver when you're working with a library of tens of thousands of tracks.

I'm now realizing those two functionalities are independent of each other and maybe Stephen never intended to do the metadata entry part of it. So hiccup is right and this isn't a bug.

Thanks for your help, guys! I'm new to the forum and I'm not sure what comes next. Do I need to close this thread somehow?

I could imagine (just guessing) Steven reading this 'bug report', and thinking "there is no bug here. Brain-cells: ignore".
If you still would like to have this auto-complete functionality for the Publisher field, it would probably best be requested at the Wishlist board.

Moving this thread to Wishlist may not be the best idea, since the title nor the start post describes what we are talking about now. (I think)

Locking it? Not a fan of locking topics in general.
Perhaps just reply with something along the lines of:

This was probably not a bug, so case closed.
Continuation here (link to your wishlist topic)

i have implemented that

unzip and replace the existing musicbee application files

Bloody hell, mate, that's amazing!

Thanks so much, Steven, for this and the app in general
