I did an in-place update from W7 to W10. All seemed to be fine until I had an podcast update. I investigated the error log and noticed this:

I checked permissions, which seemed fine on my music disc, nothing changed in that regard. The episodes also downloaded and worked, but every time i started MB, they downloaded again, with the error. The MBL database file didn't save either after start-up/shutdown like it normally does.

The problem seemed to be writing rights for MB itself in regard to C:\Program Files (x86)\, although my windows account is an administrator account. So I changed the MB link itself, to run as an administrator and that worked. No more errors.

- My questions(s) is (are) is that normal to do so in order to run MB under W10?
- Do i need to change anything?
- Do i need to install MB in C:\Program Files\ instead of C:\Program Files (x86)\?

MB is the normal windows version 3.5.8447.35892D

Thanks.

Hello Gendji,

In the time I've been on this forum, I've always seen posts warning about not installing MusicBee in a windows controlled directory if you didn't want problems.

I don't know what type of MusicBee install you have there (looks to be the installer), but:

If it's the portable version, move that whole MusicBee folder to C:\MusicBee, or a different drive altogether if you can help it.
I'm guessing windows won't have much control over it there.

Edit:
Somebody else would have to tell you if it's safe or not to move the whole (installer) folder away from its default location.

I already spend hours on end on social media. Might as well spare a few of those to a greater purpose here.

Hi Mayibongwe,

That's true but i have been using it like this for years, (although with W7) and it never was a problem. Switched to W10 to overcome other W7 related issues and they are solved now. I didn't expect an permission "error" though, after upgrading :D. It works now, like i said, by starting MB as an admin, although my W10 account is an admin account. It all doesn't make sense somehow 🤨.

B.t.w. it is indeed the installer version.

Thank you for you're suggestions and response. I will dive in it some more to find out where all settings are stored and what i need, to make the switch to a different folder or a portable install, without losing all settings, playlists, add-ons etc.

Thanks.

This, along with a couple of forum searches, should be helpful in that regard: https://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=36875.0
