To use the import export, feature correctly, does the playlist have to be exported as an mbd file, or should it still work if saved as an m3u file. I ask because when importing an exported playlist, nothing happens., thoughts please.

Are you talking about Preferences > Library > playlists > exported playlists?

I don't know what an "mbd file" is. Perhaps you mean "MBP"? Which is a playlist file used exclusively by and for MB's library (database) and can't be read by any other player.  Using any of the available formats in the exported playlists dropdown will work as long as the player or device you're exporting them to can read the format.

Exactly what are you doing with the exported playlists? Where are they to be played?
