I saw a tweet from Echo Nest about their new open source fingerprinting system:

I would very much like to see this implemented.

+1 if it can replace the current fingerprints library.

From their website:

"...in partnership with 7digital and musicbrainz"

Sounds very promising!

+1 (but only if its better than what we have currently)

A whooping 13 million(!) tracks will be available when they launch officially. Now only about 150,000 are available  :-\

They are still working on it

The echo nest has to replace Gen PUID because Gracenote (Sony Subsidiary bought out Amplifind. AudioExpert uses The Echo Nest and it works well. I want quit using AudioExpert and just use MusicBee. All you need are codegen.dll and codegenc.dll. Just say goodbye to Ampli Find because it's no use using it.
