Yikes! Museexmatch here is still working OK. I keep it farther down the list so it doesn't get hit as often, after stuff like Genius and Beenius, and LRCLIB, which scoop up an incredible amount. Not using any VPNs. I use the same "strategy" with Foobar and AIMP and those still deliver as well.
Your plans to do a re-work of your plugins sound terrific to me--please do!! Although I understand about the time factor. Thanks for staying involved with them.
