Creating custom tagsMusicBee has the most commonly used tags available out-of-the box.
But there may be tags that you would like to use that are not available by default.
You can use MusicBee's 'Custom Tag' feature to create such a new tag.
There are no less than 20 of those available. (
MusicBee v3.6)
Some obectives for creating a custom tag can be:
- making a currently unavailable tag available for use in MusicBee
- making a currently unavailable tag available for another purpose
- making a tag that was written by other software and is invisible in MusicBee available
For the first two:
the first step is to select one of the hidden tags.
Suppose you want to activate the tag Set Subtitle:

after selecting it, give it a display name that will be used within MusicBee:

After clicking 'Apply', the tag will be functional as any other tag.
note that clicking 'Apply' triggers a rescan of your whole libraryRegarding the second objective: note that you can give the tag any display name that you want, and so re-purpose it for another use.
For objective 3 (making a tag that was written by other software and is invisible in MusicBee available)
click 'Define New Tagsā¦':

Next, populate the identifier, and the tag names per audio codec:

If you can't find how the software that created them writes them, you can use the Tag Inspector to check how they are written.
After you have saved these settings, the identifier will show up in the drop-down menu from screenshot #1 and you can follow the steps described earlier.
