When I connect my ZEN X-Fi flash MP3-player (32 GB) and try to read its contents with MusicBee I get the following error :

This is strange because MusicBee seems to recognize the device by showing the right information about the device, like serial number, firmware version, current battery capacity and current storage capacity. Does anyone has the same problem with the ZEN X-fi or any other device?

from the error message it looks like its happening when you right click the mouse on the library or podcast icon. And i can reproduce the same error if i set the root music folder path to a non-existant folder on the device.

I will put in checks so this error doesnt occur but could you confirm a couple of things:
- if you left click on the library icon for the device, does it show any music tracks?
- and secondly, if you right click the device icon and open the synchronisation settings menu, what does the 'root folder for music tracks' parameter say and does it refer to a valid directory on the device?

if it is set to an invalid folder, just manually correct it in the synchronisation settings panel and the error shouldnt occur any more. But let me know the answers to the above as it sounds like MB might be defaulting to an invalid folder for the music tracks on this device

Steven,

When I either left or right click on the device icon I get the error message. The only difference is when right-clicking : after the error message I get the submenu from which you can choose synchronistaion and so on. I never get to see the folders of my device, although MusicBee seems to know where my music files are stored on the device considering the configuration window of the device.
Thanks in advance for your answer as I would very much like to use MusicBee, as it seems to have the right look and feel for me and could meet my goals. I mainly want to use the program to synchronise my Zen X-Fi with MP3 files stored on my computer. My music collection is very big (about 75 GB of mainly MP3) but I rarely play music on my computer. I first tried the standard Creative Central software and later on Songbird and MediaMonkey, but they all are not really want I want.

this link should fix to the specific error you are having - just copy the new MusicBee.exe to the folder MusicBee is installed (this is the 1.0 version - from your error message it doesnt look like you are using the 1.1 beta yet)
http://www.mediafire.com/?nyzmtzhymio

But i think the origin of the problem is probably MB choosing an invalid folder either for the music files or for the storage folders.
If you cant open the synchronisation settings panel from right clicking the device icon and choosing Synchronisation Settings,
could you try it by choosing Edit/ Preferences and clicking the Device Settings button.
In that screen the first parameter 'root folder for music tracks' - could you let me know what it says and could you confirm its a valid folder on the device.
If it is an invalid you can manually correct it and after saving the preferences, and restarting things should work. But i would be interested to know what the root folder was originally being set to

Steven,

I replaced the .exe file and now get some more information of my device on the left pane. But that's the only difference, I still get the error when trying to open the folder with the music files. When opening the device settings under the Preferences, the right path is shown under 'root folder for music tracks'. This was also already detected by the prior version of MusicBee and is the default path for storage of music on the device, in other words I didn't alter it.
Error message (in case it is different) :

do you have a SD card that holds the music files?
also if you click on the library icon under the device, do any files show?
it would also be helpful to get 2 screenshots of the device - one that shows the left panel in musicbee with the device, and 2nd how the same folders look from windows file manager
I'll PM you with my email address for the screenshots

i've made a change where i think it might be going wrong for your device:
http://www.mediafire.com/?mddgkwmumwg

but its a guess - if it doesnt work then it would be helpful to still send the info requested in the previous message

Steven,

In the meantime I sent you the screenshots you were asking for. The new .exe file did come closer : it did show more of my real device content in the left pane, but still getting an error message when trying to open the folder. And I do have a SD card in my device, but this is not were my music is stored. When I remove the card it doesn't make any difference.
