How about allowing the user to set up a custom sort field for a specific field?
For instance, the user creates a custom or virtual tag called "Sort Conductor", then go to Sorting/Grouping settings and set that field as a sorting field for "Conductor" field. Then Conductor field now sorts by that custom sort field just like other officially supported sort fields.
This would allow various tags to be sorted by any customized way the user wants to.
