Hiya

I was wondering how you dealt with 2 albums by the same artist, same release year, only difference is the amount of tracks in each album.

These show up in MB as just one album

ie

1. House of Pain - On Point (4 tracks) 1994

2. House of Pain - On Point (6 tracks) 1994

thanks in advance

Steve

I add a point of differentiation to the album title.

House of Pain - On Point [Original]

House of Pain - On Point [EP]

House of Pain - On Point [Dexlue]

House of Pain - On Point [2011 Remaster]

Etc.

You can also create a custom field, or use an unused standard field, to add some kind of switch for alternate version and then add that field under Edit->Preferences->Sorting/Grouping->The following fields define an album.

You can also meticulously make sure all your albums are in their own separate folders and then select "Files for each album are organized in their own folder" on that same screen.

Of those options, mine seemed the most portable (I'd see the difference on my devices, not just in my library manager) and manageable and visible, (I'd see which version a track was from while playing the tracks) so that's what I do.  YMMV

In "Settings->Sorting/Grouping" you can choose which tag fields are used to define an album. Assuming your tracks are tagged to a minimal I would suggest you use:

Album Artist
Album
Track Count

If they're more extensively tagged you could do something like:

Album Artist
Album
Catalog Number
Media (CD/WEB/DVD)
