I've been using Musicbrainz Picard to manage my tagging for a short time now, but seem to have hit a snag when tagging mp3 files that have a specific release date rather than just a year.

The Musicbrainz format is yyyy-mm-dd and with flac files MB has no problems with that. With mp3 files, the value gets split into YEAR: yyyy and DATE: ddmm. Then, MB displays the value as mm/dd/yyyy in the Edit box.

To keep everything arranged chronologically in explorer, I have my album folders automatically arranged by date then title. For my flac albums, that's a fairly Windows-friendly yyyy-mm-dd. But, my mp3 album folders are being labeled mm dd yyyy [album title]. That throws off my system.

I assume the solution will be how I define the folder names. Here is my current naming template for my library:

$Sort(<Album Artist>)\<Year> $Sort(<Album>)\<Disc-Track#> <Title>

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Instead of <Year>, use this:

$Date(<Year>,yyyy-MM-dd)

FYI MB's date format follows your Windows short date format.
