Track details disappear

I love MB - very user friendly.
i have about 20gb of music - the track details all used to show up in the Windows Media player. however in MB, about 30% of the tracks have no details showing up in the Music library. However on the now playing list, i get the file name. Shouldnt MB be able to pick up the title/ artist automatically from this?
so far i've been manually editing the tracks - too painful.
Anyway of automating this?

try to use tag inspector on one of problem tracks. track may have not only id3 tags, but also for instance ape tags, which may interfere.

You can use auto tag by track > infer and update tags from filename to get info from the filename.
