Hey Steven,

when I play any Song from my Library Musicbee says:
"unable to open File (error=bass_error_codec)"

I tried all Solutions given in this Forum..
I changed all my Player settings to nearly every possible combination. Even if I select an UPNP Client as Target, I get this Error?!

I'm using 2.5.5721 on Windows 10, Education (Pro) [10240].
Realtek audio drivers are up to date, but I think they can't be the Problem, because It doesen't work with my Logitech G930 USB headset either...

Hope you can help me

The Windows 10 version you are using probably misses some multimedia codec functionalities.

You can try this:

- close MusicBee
- find "bass.dll" in the installation folder, and rename it to "bass.bak"
- download "bass24.zip" here: http://www.un4seen.com/download.php?bass24
- extract it, and find the file "bass.dll"
- copy that file to the folder where you now have "bass.bak"

There is a good chance your files will then play fine.
If this doesn't help you can easily reverse the change and report back.

Or you can update to the latest MB patch (see my sig) which includes bass.dll and see if that helps.
Download the latest MusicBee v3.5 or 3.6 patch from here.
Unzip into your MusicBee directory and overwrite existing files.

That's incorrect information.
The bass.dll included in MusicBee, whether in the installer, or in an update is different from the bass.dll from the original creator of the BASS library, which is Un4seen.
This is due to and related to license restrictions. Using a patched MusicBee won't cure this specific problem.

@hiccup - take a look at the credits under MB's Help > About.  The BASS Audio Library is credited to Ian Luck at www.un4seen.com

you are both right.
The bass.dll included with MB is the "MP3 Free" version from un4seen.com. It uses the windows mp3 decoder for decoding mp3 files but some versions of windows dont come with a mp3 decoder.
The version linked by hiccup doesnt depend on a mp3 decoder being installed on windows but i cant include it with MB as i would need to pay a license fee to the mp3 patent holders

That is exactly what I was explaining to the OP. (and I never suggested the included bass.dll is not created by Un4seen, only that it's a different version)
Updating with a patched MusicBee won't make any difference to his problem.

@halliba, let us know if this fixes it?

edit:
@Steven, isn't it so that this also applies to wma/wmv files, not only mp3?

That one worked for me :)
Thanks a lot ;)
