Author Topic: IS there a way we can get a 'more than 5 star' rating thing going?  (Read 8198 times)

Really love even the extra star! Most players have a measly 4. But would be extra cool if we could get 10.

Why ten when you can have eleven?  8)

But seriously any specific reason for this? You already have half stars in between so technically you have "more" than 5 stars, isn't that enough?

You could use a custom tag and rate songs out of 100 if you want to.

Also ten stars would make the rating column in the Details view obnoxiously wide.
Bee excellent to each other...

I just like choice.
I like to be pretty specific in my ratings but adding a tag would be a hassle.

As far as making the thing too wide, yeah...I have an issue with the MB layout.
 :-[

I really just want to play my music 'shuffled' and rate (and make playlists) as I go...and only see what's playing.
Seeing all the rest of my entire music collection seems like a waste of space. Also, I don't care to see a large pic of the cover art.

VS

Can I get rid of the giant, unwanted cover art section (below the now playing section) and toss the 'library' part as well?
NOTE: The 'library part' is empty because after an hour of importing I clicked 'cancel' and, apparently, nothing was actually imported.

P.S.
Sorry for such a large, ungainly picture, I couldn't reduce size for some reason. Sorry!

Ignoring the fact using MusicBee without a library seems a bit pointless, you can configure its appearance in a bajillion ways.
To get just a list of currently queued songs with no artwork, try:
1. Edit > Preferences > Layout (2), set Compact Player to use "classic" layout.
2. Click the Configure Panel button next to that option and uncheck Show track information
3. Save the two Preferences dialog settings.
4. In the main program window select View > Compact Player.

This will look something like this:

NOTE: The 'library part' is empty because after an hour of importing I clicked 'cancel' and, apparently, nothing was actually imported.
It can take a while to do the first import for a large number of tracks - say 50,000+ - but MusicBee will show you its progress as it does. If you weren't seeing any progress at all after an hour something has gone wrong.
Bee excellent to each other...

Download the latest MusicBee v3.5 or 3.6 patch from here.
Unzip into your MusicBee directory and overwrite existing files.

Thanks for the advice, Zak.

I just think more stars would be a nice *option.*
I like choice. And, being able to configure my player however I see fit.
'Pointless' to you, may not be 'pointless' to me. Right?

Edit: in compact mode I can't have access to any of the controls?
Wow, that really was pointless, you were right.  :-[

Wow, MB is sooo close to being good.
I love the shuffle and fade options together in one app.
I just wish it looked better. The skins... leave a lot to be desired...
And the clusterfuck way the thing is layed out is...leaving a lot to be desired.  :P

No offense.
You guys are doing a great job here.
For FREE.
But...

Why would I need to see my whole library alongside what I'm playing?

Doesn't make sense to me. But, I'm slow.
And yet, I have faith I can work this out.

Love Music Bee and hope one day to understand how to modify it to my tastes.

Thanks for all the help!

So close the right sidebar and the column browser and put the Now Playing List in the main panel (it's under playlists).

Wow too.
It's a big pity it doesn't live up to your high standards.

Confuscious say 5 stars = 10 stars
                           4.5 stars =  9 stars......you get the drift.  ;D

And you can always "Love" tracks that you want to rate higher than 5 stars.

Use the player in Compact Mode when you just listen to music, this is what i do. And when i want to access the library i simply use a global keyboard shortcut to switch from Compact Mode to Main Mode.

Also the Loved track is a good advice, i personnaly don't use the rating system, just love my favorite tracks.

Good advice, all.

I'm not sure why it's kinda a big deal to me, just wish I had more stars!
Ten might be too much, that's true, but 7 or 8 would be cool as well.

Yeah, I get the 1/2 star thing adds more fine tuned rating, for this I am sincerely glad.
Music Bee is currently being used more than my paid for JRivers!

 ;D

From reading some of the 'tips' thread, there seems to be a ton of stuff I could learn to do as well.
Time to start digging in and exploring. Still wish there was a plug-in or something for 7 stars!!!  :P

Thanks for all the advice!
