Ok. I updated my MB to 2.5 and can see the version number as "2.5.5441".

Yes. I get audio but it doesn't show the correct version number in programs and features. Other than that, everything should be fine.

Great. That issue is expected because we don't apply a patch through an installer.

Actually it's better to leave it alone because who cares if the same version number doesn't show on programs and features. Right?

All my music files are WAV

Try converting some tracks to FLAC or mp3 (select files> right click> Send to> Format Converter) and see if the problem persists with them as well.

I converted 4 tracks to FLAC and used the inbox to test them. As a result, MB didn't lock up while playing these tracks. Let's hope this works. If not, feel free to reply back for more ideas.
