The fact that you can't run most other processes while syncing makes it nearly impossible to do anything else at the same time.  Is there any way syncing could be paused for relatively quick other processes like deleting files, rescanning files, or sending them to external programs?

the synching process runs in a normal priority background process. I expect what is maxing your computer out is encoding threads which you can control in the file converter preferences. The number of encoding threads might be reduced to free up a CPU but wouldnt take effect until the next synch session. The priority could be reduced and wouldnt take effect until the next file was encoded.
I wouldnt be able to suspend any of this

I knew about the number of threads for encoding, but I missed that you could set priority for them.  I will give it a try.
