I'm a new user, and have discovered that some of the more obscure artists in my library do not display an artist photo when their song is playing in the "Now Playing" screen.  I've saved JPG photos of them, and placed these photos in my default "Artists Pictures" folder.

How can I import them onto the background of (only) the "Now Playing" screen?

I ran into the same thing! Adding the artist image manually helps, but most players don’t auto-load custom pics into the Now Playing background. You might need a player like MusicBee or foobar2000 with plugins that let you customize Now Playing visuals. Definitely worth checking the settings or forums for manual image linking options!

If you have placed any artist picture files in the Artist Pictures folder then they should automatically be being used by MusicBee.

Ensure that the filenames begin with the exact 'Artist name' - for example 'The Beatles.jpg'
You can save multiple images for any artist by adding a suffix to the filename - for example 'The Beatles_1.jpg', 'The Beatles_2.jpg' etc. By default MusicBee will cycle through the multiple images (but you can turn that off too).

Thanks, TJ, for the prompt and helpful Reply.  I've returned to several artist's songs, but still no background photo during "Now Playing".  I've double-checked spelling, case, and punctuation.
Is it possible I've got more than one Artists Pictures folder?  Please describe in detail how to locate the exact path for the folder(s) that MusicBee looks in.
One of the frustrating thing about MusicBee is that it hoovers info from many sources, unlike my previous player from that fruit company.
Good info on the ability to import multiple photos for the same artist.
I'll figure this out eventually, with help from you experts.  The program is highly flexible, but with that flexibility comes great complexity.

Please describe in detail how to locate the exact path for the folder(s) that MusicBee looks in.

The exact location for pictures you have collected must be:
  • Installed version: %USERPROFILE%\Music\MusicBee\Artist Pictures
  • Portable version: .\Library\Artist Pictures

Accepted files: <Artist>.jpg (or .png),
or <Artist>_1.jpg + <Artist>_2.jpg etc. (or .png)

===

Some artist pictures automatically retrieved by MusicBee are stored at this location instead:
  • Installed version: %LOCALAPPDATA%\MusicBee\InternalCache\ArtistBackdrops
  • Portable version: .\AppData\InternalCache\ArtistBackdrops

Conventions:
  • The .jpg files are named as <Artist>.dat
(.JPG replaced by .DAT, for some reason unknown to me)
  • 1 picture per artist, no picture index appended

Got it, thanks.
Problem has been solved; case closed (but there will be others!)
