So I was converting some files from flac to mp3. ALl was working as normal, until i added a new batch to the inbox, tried to send them to format converter as normal, but no window popped up.

I tried it a few times, because, you know, surely it would work on the 5th or 6th attempt to do the same thing over and over, right?

But nope.

SO i closed musicbee, and opened it, tried again. nothing.

I tried sending to organised folder and edit, to see if they still worked normally, and they did. The windows pop up as normal.

So OK, clearly i need to reboot, so I do that. open it up, try again - and nothing, still not working, so I'm totally baffled.

Any help appreciated - thanks!

Sounds (to me) like a silent fail.  Basically an error but without feedback.
See if you can get an error code or other information.
I would open your MusicBee settings and in the file conversion section see what program is being used for the conversion.
Locate this file on your drive.  Should be in folder ../MusicBee/codec
Move one of your flac files to the same folder.
Open up a command window in this folder and run it manually with the same conversion settings as MusicBee has.
Something like ThisConverter.exe -option1 -option2 [output file]
If there is an issue you should see an error message.
If you do get an error you might be able to pipe it to a text file for pasting.
ThisConverter.exe -option1 -option2 [output file] > error.txt
If you are not sure what the options format is, type in the lame of the converter by itself in the cmd window and it will provide the help format
EG: "lame" or "flac" etc

Thanks so much, so I was doing as you suggested - and after typing the

ThisConverter.exe -option1 -option2 [output file]

I was watching it, waiting for it to do something - just seemed to be working on something at the time, but had output no response to the command. I happened to glance over at the screen to the right (multiple monitor setup)  and the the missing window had appeared, already populated with all the files I was trying to convert yesterday.

It's just completed the format conversions normally. SO I'm utterly baffled now, haha

But now it works normally as it did before the issue suddenly started, so whilst I've no idea why this fixed it, it did, so thankyou!

OK, this just gets weirder now.

I just tried to scan folders to add these newly converted files to the library, but now I don't get the file scanning window. Tried closing musicbee and rebooting to no avail.

All the other pop up windows seem to be fine as far as I can tell, but just this one now refuses to appear

Very odd.

Edit: I just updated to latest version to see if that helped, but still the same

Your prompt: ThisConverter.exe -option1 -option2 [output file]
This is not the whole prompt.  Which is why you might need to look at the help menus for the programs.
You need to tell it what file to convert; EG There should be an [input file] there somewhere  ::) .  Likely at the beginning.  MB is parsing this automatically.
It is likely: ThisConverter.exe [input file] -option1 -option2 [output file]

Maybe the popup is getting stuck behind other windows?  Maybe behind MB itself.  If you minimize MB it might disappear though.
Perhaps try and open the dialog then move MB around and see if you can find it.  If not try running the command line again with the input file argument.

I didn't actually enter the command exactly like that - I just copied that from your post to reply to you here - it had the correct  parameters when I ran it in the command line. :)

THe windows arent hidden behind others, at least I don't think so. I checked that before coming here, minimising / moving all other windows one by one to check for that.

I don;t think running the command line again would change anything now, because the file converter window is now showing up exactly as it should. It's the file scanning window that refuses to appear now.

Something weird going on over there lol.  Sorry!  I thought it was a conversion issue.  Like an issue with one of the input files.
Seems to be something else.  I don't think I can fix this...

What is your exact MusicBee version and install type?
Could it be antivirus software interfering?
(try excluding MusicBee from its grasp)

You probably changed the dpi scale on one of your screens and the dialog is off window. Try temporarily changing it back and move the window to top left. Or delete dialogsettings.dat

I hadn't changed the resolution, and I don't think I played any games that day either that might have done it.

However, I just tried changing resolution on one screen, and sure enough, thefile scan window popped up on another, so it was definitely related. Thanks! I can finally add them to the player, hehe
