When I set level volume on the fly to a portable device by track,  what level will I be getting.  I'm going to assume 0.  If it is 0,  is there a way to change level to anything else other than 0

I would advice on some reading material on loudness normalization.
These two links should help to clear things up a bit:

edit,
The concept of '0' is probably a confusing factor here.
(I assume you are referring to the '0' on the adjustment scale?)
If interested, a while back I made some proposals on this, (the part about the '0' is somewhere in it also), but I guess it didn't get enough support:

Thanks for quick reply,  except I knew most of that already.  I realize 89 is default, that is what I meant from 0.  My question is can I make all songs a little louder (say 92) when I'm sending it to a portable on the fly so I don't have to turn my car stereo up as much

if the format is being changed or same format but re-encoded to a smaller size, MB will apply the replay gain value from the replaygain tags stored in the file ie. as long as the replay gain tags are set using the adjusted value then that will acheive what you want.
if the file is not re-encoded - for MP3 and MP4 files, the mp3Gain or aacGain utility is used and the standard volume will be applied by that utility

I guess this would be more of a wishlist request then, as all my files are set to 0 as I use smartgain in musicbee itself,  but it would be nice to implement the same slider used in replaygain to adjust going out to a portable device

Some portable players have a setting to pre-amplify. Perhaps your player has that too?

Hi @munga - did you find a solution to this?

I would like to do the same. I am constantly changing the volume up and down in my car due to the differences in volume levels of my tracks. I have just learned how to go through the process of volume analyzing on all tracks. I now have those set and listen to my MB library using the smart gain playback setting.

I am doing two things, exporting these files to a folder to then drop into itunes to sync with my phone. I am also copying those files over to a USB memory stick to use in my car, when I want a little bit of a better audio experience. I have a Lexicon sound system in my car, so playing via the USB stick is a huge improvement over the lousy audio quality that comes out of the iphone through carplay via USB.

What I'm trying to figure out is, how can I permanently apply the volume gain changes to the files I export from MB that I load onto my iphone and USB memory stick. I just delete these files after I copy them over and I dont do it often. Is there a simple way to do this?

Someone else can correct me if I'm wrong (since I do not export files to devices), but could the above user add a ReplayGain option to one of the File Converter profiles in Preferences and then simply set his device in Preferences -> Tools -> Settings to use that profile when converting files?
