In Library Explorer I choose interpret like "Nat King Cole".
Open tree.
The CD-Symbol comes up with e.g. the record "20 Golden Greats" - that's ok.

Next right-click on the CD Symbol - submenu PLAY NOW .... comes up. - ok.
Now click the "PLAY NOW" button and the first Titel from "Playing Tracks" is playing - that's wrong.

Go into the record and choose track 01 (sweet loraine)  and do a right-click on track & submenu PLAY NOW - ok.

Go back to "20 Golden Greats" CD-Symbol and click again. The old, unwanted song from "Playing Tracks"-List  is playing.

i am not able to reproduce any issues so can you PM me a link to your settings file (help/ support/ view settings)
Also i am not clear with your example, when you say you click on the CD icon and Play Now, which wrong tracks are playing. A screenshot showing the whole application will help

The way the library explorer is implemented can be quite confusing and i really need to revisit it.
If your main panel is the library it should work as you expect but it wont when browsing computer folders.
I might look to address the specific issue you raise for v3.0 depending on how easy it is to implement
