New Sort Oder (yyyy-mm-dd)

I have been searching Google for like two hours now trying to figure out how to sort music by the full album release date. I use smart playlists to organise my albums by record label/publisher but the albums only organize by original year or release year, and it causes the sort order to be incorrect. If I could organize by catalogue number that would be awesome but as far as I can see no player supports that.

The "Year" tag can contain the full release date.
It is different than "Year (yyyy)".

You could certainly sort by catalogue number in MusicBee, but you'd have to configure it as a custom tag first and make sure the info is in your files.

And yes, MusicBee will accept a full date in most formats. What format are your files in?

Well, I have tried to figure out how to set custom tags, but Google was no help. If I did want to sort by release date (or ideally catalogue number) how would I go about doing so?
