I'm new to MusicBee, so I'm sure I have something fouled up...  I have searched the forums for this question... found related genre tag postings, but nothing that solved my problem.

My workflow (for a long time) has been to rip to FLAC using dbPoweramp and tag the music when ripped.  I am now using MusicBee as my player and have a setup/layout that I love,  My left window is Genre, Main window is Albums grouped by Album Artist.  So, if I highlight "Classical" I see all my Classical tagged music by Album Artist.  Clicking on the Artist gives me the albums.

However, I'm  getting some strange action for some albums/artists where the artist/album shows up under the expected genre, as well as "extra" genres where it's not tagged to be.   For example - I have the Foo Fighters Greatest Hits album/tracks tagged and showing up under "Rock", but also showing up under "Pop".  Conversely, Elton John's Greatest Hits is tagged as "pop", but also shows up under "Rock".

I have Tony Bennett MTV Unplugged tagged/showing up under "Jazz Vocals", and also showing up under "Alternative"... while 10,000 Maniacs MTV Unplugged is tagged/appearing under Alternative, but also showing up under "Jazz Vocals".

It's almost like albums with identical names album are showing up in every genre that has an identical album name.  I'm seeing this with Lenny Kravitz Greatest Hits, Santana Greatest Hits, Billy Joel Greatest Hits, etc, etc.

One last item -- I have Tags (2) Tags: completely unchecked.  The only auto-tagging that is occurring is lyrics and missing artwork.  Also, I do not use windows mediaplayer and I have confirmed (using both MusicBee and dbPoweramp) that the music is correctly tagged.

I appreciate any help/feedback.

Thanks,

dave

Try looking for any hidden tags using Tag Inspector which can be launched from tag editor.
If that doesn't help, can you post a screenshot of how your MB looks? (http://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=3998.0)

No hidden genres -- I just looked at three of the offending albums... not all of them.  And, it's every album titled "Greatest Hits" in my collection that is appearing in multiple genre's, and the only two "MTV Unplugged" albums.  So it appears to be specific to albums with identical names.

I wanted to post a screenshot with my initial post, but I didn't see the tools to allow me to post images... your link is helpful, I should have just tried the /img tags...

Here is an image of the Jazz Vocals Genre...

obviously 10,000 Maniacs should not be there...

Here is the Alternative Genre

Tony Bennett should not be here...

Here the "Pop" genre, where I have the Foo Fighters Greatest Hits shown and the tag inspector showing the Rock tag...

Note that to the left of the Tag Inspector is Neil Young, showing "no albums" but with a Greatest Hits album under Pop.  Next to him is Lenny Kravitz, showing 1 album, a greatest hits album showing under Pop.  The Rock genre correctly shows all their albums (including the greatest hits albums).

Finally, here is a shot of the Rock genre...

you can see that Elton John is mistakenly showing here...

Sorting/grouping is largely blank:

You can see in the screenshot that the Thumbnail Browser is set on Genre and the main window is set on "Albums grouped by Album Artist".  I didn't really use the Sorting/Grouping in preferences, other than to have "Album Name" define an album.

Doh!   Problem solved... thank you!

As soon as I posted I figured out that I needed to show Album Artist as the first field under Grouping, and my problem went away.

MB came out of the box showing Artist tag there, which I deleted so I didn't have Duet type albums split across 10 different albums.  Didn't give it a thought that I needed to replace it with Album Artist...

Thanks again... knew I had to be doing something wrong.
