Bug Reports / Re: MB 3.5.8206 P doesn't display some album covers
« on: June 22, 2022, 09:30:30 AM »
There are no embedded pictures.
Each album has its separate folder, with either cover.jpg or cover.png.
In the tag editor, the artwork zone is blank, showing "drag artwork here...".

Bug Reports / MB 3.5.8206 P doesn't display some album covers
« on: June 22, 2022, 08:29:47 AM »
Symptom:
some album covers are no longer displayed (although the cover.jpg/png files are still present in the respective folders).
A "File rescan" of those albums retrieves the album covers, which are forgotten again after MB restart.

Version concerned: 3.5.8206 P
Last functioning version: 3.5.8167 P

The impacted albums are always the same when switching from v3.5.8167 to v3.5.8206.
Cover formats: JPG, or PNG
Music formats: OGG, FLAC, or M4A with CUE

Strangely enough, when copying one of those "vanishing" covers to the folder of another album (having a correct cover display in v3.5.8206), the cover display remains correct for that album.

The user hasn't said anything about using Linux. Perhaps you should tell the user how to delete the font cache in Windows.

Thanks phred for pointing this out, I was probably misled because I remember having the same message on Linux only, where rebuilding the font cache solved the case.

A batch file for that purpose under Windows 10 is provided here (see "Method 2", run batch and reboot):
https://techcult.com/rebuild-font-cache-in-windows-10/
I have just tested it on my machine and switched MB to font Yu Gothic: no error message issued, and the only title in Japanese from my collection is displayed correctly.

But the display was already flawless on Windows before (Japanese + Latin, Cyrillic, and Greek).

Note: MB works as a charm with .otf and .ttf fonts on both Windows and Linux (my distro: Linux Mint 18.3 x32 with wine installed).

The selected font is not a valid font for MusicBee (the selected font needs to be a TrueType font)

Have you tried refreshing the font cache (Linux)?
Code
sudo fc-cache -f -v

Localization / Re: French translation
« on: April 18, 2022, 04:32:56 PM »
Voici deux propositions d'améliorations de la version française où, en l'état actuel, le texte est nébuleux.
Elles concernent le panneau de configuration des albums (Albums / Personnaliser le panneau...).

EN: overlay fields inside the artwork
FR: recouvrir les champs dans la pochette
---> recouvrir la pochette par les champs

EN: fill text background
FR: remplir le texte en arrière plan
---> remplir l'arrière-plan du texte

Bonjour klint,
Merci pour la traduction française !
Une mini contribution :
* Remplacer "Album Cover" par "Pochette" (dans le panneau principal, type d'affichage: Pistes / Albums et pistes / ...)
* "bar des onglets"  ;)  -> "barre des onglets" (Préférences -> Interface (1) -> barre d'en-tête)
* "colorier le texte" -> "colorer le texte"

Tips and Tricks / Re: user-defined web links Collection
« on: February 08, 2022, 03:13:27 PM »
Anyone can help me for a weblink search for <Artist> - <Title>, and an other one for <Artist> - <Album> for searching covers on Deejay.de

Here you are... :)

Artist+Title:
Code
https://www.deejay.de/$Lower($Replace(<Artist>+<Title>," ","+"))

Artist+Album:
Code
https://www.deejay.de/$Lower($Replace(<Artist>+<Album>," ","+"))

The functions $Lower and $Replace are not mandatory, since the site would perform both changes by itself anyway.

Questions / Re: Anybody care to share their settings?
« on: February 02, 2022, 03:19:51 PM »
Here are a few special features that I use:
* custom tags
* virtual tags
* highlighting rules

Below, a brief introduction to their purpose, so that you can select what you're interested in.

CUSTOM TAGS
* Catalog: used for classical music (e.g.: 'BWV 211')
* MediaType: for storing the source (e.g.: 'CD', 'LP', music provider names, ...)

As far as I know, you need to set such custom tags by using MB's interface. In other words: simply importing the definition files into your own folders won't work, since MB adapts its library just after your defining the custom tags.

Note: standard tag names in .mp3 files:
* MediaType -> TMED
* Language -> TLAN

VIRTUAL TAGS
Used for displaying titles on two rows:
1) if available: Work
2) if available: Movement (nr. and/or name), otherwise: Title

Definitions:
TitleRow1: $IsNull(<Work>,,$If(<Work>=<Title>,,<Work>))
TitleRow2: $IsNull(<Movement #><Movement Name>,<Title>,$IsNull(<Movement #>,,<Movement #>". ")$IsNull(<Movement Name>,,<Movement Name>))

HIGHLIGHTING RULES
They are based on tags such as Genre and Language, in order to see at a glance, for example, what tracks are instrumental or sung, and in what language. They rely on a bunch of icons.

Example of highlighting rule for works sung with accompaniment (not a cappella):
<Rule>
  <Name>GENRE=Sung (with accompaniment)</Name>
  <Query>
   <CombineMethod>0</CombineMethod>
   <Criteria>
    <Field>83</Field>
    <Comparison>0</Comparison>
    <Value1>Sung</Value1>
   </Criteria>
   <Criteria>
    <Field>83</Field>
    <Comparison>1</Comparison>
    <Value1>A cappella</Value1>
   </Criteria>
  </Query>
  <Icon>GENRE_Sung.WithAccompaniment.ico</Icon>
  <Colour>-8355712</Colour>
 </Rule>

Highlighting rules can be defined with MB's interface. They are stored in MusicBee3Settings.ini, between:
<TagHighlightingRules>
and
</TagHighlightingRules>

Icon location:
* installed version: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\MusicBee\Icons
* portable version: <MusicBee folder>\Icons

Thanks for your answer.
It's not a big deal to me, I mentioned it just in case it would affect things I didn't suspect.

I understand that the work needed exceeds the benefit for those rare cases of language switching.
Should I need it more often, I could still write a workaround with, say, gawk or Perl.

Bug Reports / Some hotkeys not kept when changing the interface language
« on: January 28, 2022, 10:40:14 AM »
Some hotkeys are not kept when choosing another interface language.

Concerned actions:
* (EN) View: Theater mode
    --> (FR) Affichage: Mode Cinéma
    --> (IT) Visualizza: Modalità home theater
* (EN) View: Theater mode - Show list
    --> (FR) Affichage: Mode Cinéma - Afficher la liste
    --> (IT) Visualizza: Modalità home theater - elenco visualizzazioni

Note: I haven't performed an exhaustive check of the hotkeys, so I don't know if other actions are concerned.

* MB version 3.4.8033 portable (but the bug showed up in the installed version, too)
* Win 10 x64

Steps to reproduce:
* Interface language = EN
* Define hotkeys for the two actions above.
* Choose another interface language (I have tried with FR and IT).
* Result: hotkeys not available anymore (unless you revert to the original interface language).

The behaviour also shows up when defining the hotkeys in FR and then switching to EN/IT.

After changing the language and noticing that the hotkeys are not present, if you want to re-assign them, you get a confirmation window.
Warning message in EN: F9 is used for '' - do you want to reassign it to 'View: Theater Mode'?

Screenshots available here.

Anyway, thanks to Steven and the team for their brilliant work: MB is a pure gem!

Questions / Re: Sort the "Artists" by last name
« on: January 28, 2022, 09:22:23 AM »
(N.B.: Below, AA=AlbumArtist)

Yes, you can edit AAsort in MusicBee:

* Open the tag editor (right click -> Edit)
* Select 'Sorting' tab

=====

There is a SECOND OPTION.

If you are satisfied with all the values in AAsort and do not wish to maintain both tags (AA and AAsort), you can copy AAsort into AA (with mp3tag) and then forget about AAsort.

Moreover, AA is always easily accessible in MB's interface (more easily than AAsort).

But make sure that AA is always in the desired format: "SURNAME, given names".

In a first phase, especially for newbies who are afraid of making mistakes when converting tags with mp3tags, it's good to have both tags (AA + AAsort), so that you can always correct/tweak your conversion formulas, while keeping the original values.

And afterwards? The choice is yours.

Questions / Re: Sort the "Artists" by last name
« on: January 26, 2022, 04:35:12 PM »
My pleasure!

I can't answer your first question...

As for the second one, in mp3tag:
* select the concerned rows
* in the left panel, type the common value in the desired zone
* click on the Save button (above)

If the desired zone is not included in the left panel, you can add it like this:
* right click in the left panel
* if the tag IS the list but not activated, just click on it
* if the tag IS NOT in the list, select Customize... -> Tag panel -> Add field (1st button)

By the way, you can personalise both left and right panels: content, tag order / description / size.
