Questions / Re: Set default album art of my own choosing
« on: September 20, 2019, 09:05:00 PM »
Using no actual album art for anything in your library? *shudders* ugh.
Can't you just go to the library and Ctrl+a, shift-enter and drop the picture in the album art there? That's how I do all my album art when I edit it.

Questions / Lock pop-up notification placement on screen?
« on: September 18, 2019, 09:27:10 PM »
I have a multi monitor setup, so it's probably not apparent to most, but the pop up notification window tends to jump around a lot. I'm not entirely sure why either. My main monitor is in the center, but the notification often pops on the left monitor, and then I drag it back to the primary.
It would be nice if I could place it and hard lock it's position based on, say, pixel distance from the left screen edge.

Questions / Re: Different Layouts for Different Libraries

You could I think make multiple tabs and set them up independently. Then only use the first or second set based on library.

issue number 2, which was that albums are not sorted numerically, so large collections will be mixed. In the second image it's a bit thrown off by the fact that one is a single symphony, and another is 2 symphonies.

I had a better image to showcase #2, which was a large 10 CD collection of classical music that was in my brothers files. It was Vol. 1, Vol. 10, Vol. 2.
See this thread. I had the same issue with a multi-volume box set and Steven suggested to keep it as one album and use disc numbers instead.
https://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=19870.msg118576#msg118576
That's kind of annoying when everything has a different album cover, especially when it says it's only one thing. The classical compilation in particular was 10 songs/disc with the album cover saying the relevant information about the track number, song title, conductors, and artists.
And if I was looking through classical collections it would still be incorrect and I'm not grouping multiple conductors and albums just so MusicBee won't be wrong.

It shouldn't really have to be a workaround, especially when part of the program does it correctly but the other part doesn't.

Questions / Re: SERIOUS HELP NEEDED FAST
« on: September 16, 2019, 08:23:25 PM »
Okay, so just as a starting off point, unless you have MB set to automatically scan for files at startup, you have to manually do it in some fashion or another. You can do this in one of two ways;
1. Click on the Musicbee menu dropdown, File, Scan Folders for New Files.
2. Use the Hotkey, assignable in the preferences (ctrl+o). I don't remember what it is by default, but I made mine "Insert" for simplicity. I'm inserting new files, so it makes sense.

Another useful hotkey to remember is a rescan for when/if you're updating metadata tags and it doesn't automatically refresh, or if you've changed it outside the program. Again, it's assignable in preferences (ctrl+o) under Hotkeys, File: Rescan Monitored Folders (Will do your entire library) and File: Rescan Selected Files. These options are just above the one for File: Scan folders for new files.

It doesn't appear that the rescan really shows up anywhere else though, so it might be hotkey only.

Questions / Re: Make MB Sorting Consistent

Why by default the numerical sorting is just flat out wrong, I don't know. 10 and 10,000 should not precede 3.

I'm pretty sure MusicBee only sorts alphabetically, not numerically. So "1" comes before "3", regardless of what follows it.
Would need more info to work out what the second screenshot is doing, but that appears to be sorted by year descending, then title.
So "symphoni..." comes before "symphony...".
Not entirely true. In the actual Artist page the numbers are in proper ascending order, so it's 3 Doors Down, 10 Years, 30 seconds to Mars, 65daysofstatic. I "fixed" ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead by adding "..." to the ignored words list.

Oddly enough, it seems that the issue in the second picture has resolved itself. It should be albums released in ascending order, I don't know what it was doing, or how it fixed itself. It's not a good representation of issue number 2, which was that albums are not sorted numerically, so large collections will be mixed. In the second image it's a bit thrown off by the fact that one is a single symphony, and another is 2 symphonies.

I had a better image to showcase #2, which was a large 10 CD collection of classical music that was in my brothers files. It was Vol. 1, Vol. 10, Vol. 2.

Questions / Re: Batch change sort as
« on: September 15, 2019, 08:13:07 PM »
I am not following this thread but do you realise you dont have custom sorting enabled? ie. none of the overrides in the screenshot will be used.
MB would revert to using the "ignore words" setting in the Sorting/Grouping preferences
Okay, sure. But if that was enabled I'd still have to change all the tags, so I can disable the "ignore words" and have it use the default.
Or... if I disable the "Ignore words" will it just default to using the standard Artist tags?

Although that does explain some things for me. Seems kind of odd that isn't enabled by default or when you change the sort settings.

Questions / Make MB Sorting Consistent
« on: September 15, 2019, 08:09:52 PM »
MB by default isn't very consistent with it's sorting, or in the cases of numerical values, just does it wrong.
Some things seem to use the Sort As values, some don't. My Artist view is set by Sort Artist and displays things correctly, but the left panel text shortcuts display incorrectly under "Album Artist" with with the number 10 preceding the number 3. Setting the list to Sort Artist it displays the sort values instead of simply rearranging them. And it still doesn't correct numerical values, whereas the artist view does

Why by default the numerical sorting is just flat out wrong, I don't know. 10 and 10,000 should not precede 3. It's also annoying for classical albums or compilations where it's Symphony No.1, Symphony No. 10, Symphony No. 2 and Vol. 1, Vol 10, Vol. 2.
(I had an image for this, it's been deleted) Sorting by Album Sort as doesn't really seem to help either.

But I do have this, of which the sorting is supposed to be "Sort Album Artist/Original Year" But it just does... this instead.

Which is especially bizarre since it works for everything else.

I'm still unclear whether the tags have actually been changed (i.e. files modified), or whether this is merely a matter for displaying the tags.

Once that is clarified, advice can be given.
Either way. right now it's Artist "The Police" with Sort Artist as "Police, The"

MusicBee isn't very consistent with using one or the other, with the Artist view showing 3 Doors Down first, then 10 Years. The left panel text artist list shows ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead, 10 Years, and then 3 Doors Down, which is just wrong. Setting the left pane list to sort artist it displays "Police, The" instead of just re-arranging them. And it still does it wrong anyways.

Anyways, all he wants to do is basically make the Artist the Sort Artist.

Mp3tag can do this easily:

1. Load in your tracks.
2. Select Actions > Actions (Quick)
3. Choose action type Format Value
4. For Field enter ARTISTSORT
5. For Format string enter
Code
$regexp(%artistsort%,(.*)',' The,The \1)
6. Click OK.

Obviously test it on a copy of some sample tracks first.
That's still a pretty slow way to do it. MP3tag doesn't like to do more than a handful of albums at once, and he has a couple hundred gb's of music.

Questions / Batch change sort as
« on: September 13, 2019, 07:01:37 PM »
I went through and cleaned out my brothers music and like a normal sane person, had set all of the sort artists as skipping "The." So instead of being sorted as "The Police" it's sorted as "Police, The."

He's a lunatic though and insists that he'd rather have 10,000 artists under "The." I already gave his music back, and I could have him download Picard, but he'd need to set it up, which he's undoubtedly too lazy to do. Much less set it up like mine. It's also kind of inconsistent and not the fastest thing when I really just need to rearrange some text, not do a full album internet scan for everything.

Is there any way in MB or anything else to just change the sort order back to putting "The" first?

This older Theatre Mode was mostly the work of @redwing,  a former Forum regular..

The AUTO menu option cycles through each of the various views without any user input. Comments are on each element, making it quite simple to change with a little effort.

My screen res is 1920 x 1080.

Hm. But don't you still have to exit TM every time you want to go through your library? And isn't it also fullscreen, so not a move-able window?

I was under the impression that MusicBee simply plays nearly the exact same audio out on all channels at equal volume. Possibly something to direct left to left, and right to right? Not sure how that would work though. It works really well though, and seems to be nearly the same as what my Yamaha home theater amp does when I play music to it through aux or Bluetooth.

If I use other stuff, like Realtek's upmixer, it tries to do some sort of positional thing and doesn't work out well, meaning I basically just end up with stereo audio from only the front left/right anyways, which is why I've resorted to editing the MusicBee config and setting the upmix channels to 8. It would be nice if I didn't have to reset it each time I changed any settings though.
No, it uses stereo panning for "placement." It works pretty well, and a lot better than VLC, Razer, Dolby, etc. and even all of the surround albums I've tried.

Questions / Re: Remove music note next to track titles?
« on: August 25, 2019, 08:00:55 PM »
For me it's only there for searches. I find it very useful.
Ah, so it is. Still seems useless. What do you find useful about it?
I find its intended purpose, to know which node a file belongs to when it shows up in a search, useful. Not sure why I would need to justify that to someone who doesn't.
Easy there buckaroo. Just a question.
JZStudios, if you click the little magnifying glass and set searches to Local Node Only, the icon isn't shown.
Whether that suits you or not will depend on how you're using tabs and filters etc.
I'm guessing that'll work. I don't have anything fancy set up. Thanks.
