Bug Reports / Re: Tag Inspector messes up non-Latin metadata
« on: April 02, 2022, 09:39:52 PM »
The files were downloaded at different times from entirely different sources using entirely different methods.
Statistically, what are the chances that they are all messed up?
My guess is pretty low.

Your example video shows double entries for e.g. 'album' and 'publisher. The duplicates also display lots of question marks.

Again, in the video, I selected two files.
The album "InLovingMemory" is for Bones, and the album "?????" is for Prvrln.
The "double publisher" is two different tags, one for publisher, the other for the label.

As I said, I have tried on multiple files and languages, not just this one, so it's not an issue with the file.

Not sure what you mean with double entries.
If you mean Encoder etc, it's mentioned twice because it's in Tag Inspector.
When you select multiple files in Tag Inspector, it shows the info for both unless the tag value is the same in both (which it isn't for Encoder).

Bug Reports / Tag Inspector messes up non-Latin metadata
« on: April 02, 2022, 08:59:28 PM »
Tag inspector seems to mess up non-Latin character encoding.
I wanted to edit a single genre in multiple tracks, and all the non-Latin fields turned into a bunch of question marks.
I have tried with Cyrillic, Japanese, Arabic, Korean metadata, all had the same behavior.

That's fair.
FWIW I thought it was a bug at first, as should be evident from the title.
I did search for the "discrepancy" stuff before posting and didn't find anything, but the separator question is indeed a different matter.

B.t.w., if you want to have a quick overview of all these artists you find 'hidden', use 'Artists'. E.g. as a column in track details, or as a field in the 'Track Information' panel.

Thanks!
That's helpful.
If only there were a way to show all the tracks, including the "hidden" ones, for every artist like in Music Explorer..
Edit: To answer my own question: it's possible using Column Browser!

Sure, I was being facetious.
I just wonder what the difference is between the ellipses and the semicolon method.
Is one more "proper" than the other?
Are both within the id3 specification?

36
Yes, you're right.
I didn't realize, but there's this little ellipses sign:

next to the Artist field, and when I click on it, sometimes there's extra stuff there.
And that's where that artist shows up in all of the extra 10 songs.
That's so sneaky!

Would you mind explaining how this differs from the "standard" way of including multiple artists using the semicolon?
Is this something in the id3 specification?

More importantly, can I get rid of it in bulk?
I don't see much use for it.
I can't even see the artists hidden under those ellipses at a glance, so all this does is add confusion.

Questions / Discrepancy between Library Statistics and Music Explorer
« on: March 27, 2022, 09:39:50 PM »
Library Statistics was showing that I have 23 tracks from an artist, so I went to check what they were in Music Explorer but only saw 13.
This made me wonder how Library Statistics are calculated.

Is simply mentioning an artist (say, in the file name or the Comment tag, not in the Artist, Album Artist or Composer tags) enough to increment the count?
If so, I don't think that should be the behavior.
The behavior should be that only if the artist is listed in one of the aforementioned three tags, should the track count be incremented.

For example, if the filename is red.mp3 and the Artist tag is Tyler, the Creator;Eminem,  the track count should only go up for Eminem and for Tyler, the Creator, while the track count for Red (the band) should remain unchanged.

38
Thanks that answers it!
Kinda off topic, but if the skip count is set higher than play count, say 80% and 50% respectively, would it count every track I skip in the 50-80% range as both skipped and played?

Questions / What counts toward Most Plyaed Artists in Library Statistics?
« on: February 21, 2022, 09:51:06 PM »
This question also applies to the Top 25 Most Played auto-playlist.

I almost never listen to music by searching up a specific track.
Instead I shuffle some playlist or the entire library, then skip a track if it's not what I want to listen to.

What are the conditions for an artist's/track's value to be incremented?
If they just counted total hits a track/artist has received, the "Most Played" lists wouldn't be very meaningful for me, because they would include all those skips and could as well be called "Top artists the shuffle algorithm chooses" or something haha.
OTOH if it were similar to last.fm where a track only counts if half of it's been played then it would work much better.

Questions / Re: Issues with auto-organizing and auto-syncing.
« on: November 30, 2021, 03:29:09 AM »
Auto-sync is a little bit of a misnomer.  It will only sync automatically, ie without your telling it to, if you have the settings set to "automatically synchronize when the device is connected" and it will only sync right when it finds the connection; it doesn't keep the sync updated with later changes.  You still have to use the Synchronize command for that.
Can it be done automatically whenever a change is made to a synced playlist?
I'm trying to keep a virtual drive updated to then propagate the changes to an Android phone.

Questions / Re: Auto-tag dry run
« on: September 07, 2021, 07:07:35 AM »
Auto-downloading tags:  I can't make that work for me, so I'm wondering how you do that?!

Tools - Tagging Tools - Auto-Tag by Track - Identify Track and Update Tags - check "identify the track using the digital sound signature."

Am I the only one who got fed up with auto tagging features of multiple programs messing up their files and now is a die-hard 100% manual tagger? There is so much trash in the auto tagging databases it is not worth it to me to even bother with them. Wikipedia, etc + manual entering bulk / individual tags is my preferred choice. I also only use MB tagging for small changes.

That is the whole point of this post. I want it to show me what it's about to do so I can make sure there is no trash about to be inserted and, if there is any, deselect it.

Whoops, my bad. In fact, I have tried scrolling haha. Must've missed it. Thank you.

Questions / [SOLVED] See which songs are in playlists
« on: July 06, 2021, 05:16:00 AM »
I use playlists pretty extensively and have always wanted a way to know which songs in the Library are in playlists (or more specifically are not in any playlists). Right now to accomplish that I can Right-click - Search - Locate in Playlist for every song, but that's very cumbersome. It would be nice if I could see that information at a glance as one of the fields in the Library:

Questions / Auto-tag dry run
« on: July 05, 2021, 04:11:39 AM »
I would like to be able to see what tag changes are about to be made and checkmark the ones I actually want instead of having them be applied as soon as they're found. Kinda like with the Find and Replace tool. This could eliminate so many unintentional changes.

Questions / Re: Moving folders in Musicbee
« on: July 18, 2020, 02:13:50 AM »
Depending on your definition of "bulk" you can also drag folders around in the computer node in the left-hand navigation panel.
Right-click to enable moving if it doesn't work at first.

Thank you, this worked instantly. Beautiful.
