The Music tab is a simple, hierarchical browser, using your library.

The Music Explorer tab adds online information content, and provides a means to explore further music by a selected artist, and offers suggestions for similar artists. It allows you to 'explore' music based on what you have selected, or are currently playing, both in your own library, and elsewhere. Its meant to provide a 'if you like this, you might like this' function.

Questions / Re: Remove embedded (or linked) cover artwork from files
« on: August 14, 2019, 08:00:30 AM »
I use the AlbumArtTagger plug-in in MediaMonkey for managing artwork in files. It has a lot of options.

Different tools have different capabilities, so it's useful to have a few at your disposal. I started with MM, but now use MB for playing and getting automated metadata and artwork, but still use MM for basic metadata entry and volume analysis (force of habit, and consistency, mostly, but I also prefer MM's physical library handling).

That doesn't seem to have an AlbumArtist tag. Did it previously?

Do you have a backup you could recover your original files from? You really should have, unless you want to rip everything again should your HDD go down.

MusicBee doesn't tag files unless you tell it to.

What did you do to make it tag the files?

Media is commonly stored on an external HDD. These are commonly formatted to FAT32, for compatibility with multiple devices and operating systems; FAT32 support is more widespread than NTFS.

The other arguments for a hierarchical file structure are much stronger...

I never mess up with settings, especially with softwares that I don't know
[...]
You are probably the type who was bullied in school and continues to be bullied, so have fun being an internet tough guy.

Well, you obviously did mess up the settings this time.

Steven is the author of MusicBee. He's very supportive of users who ask for help, but he doesn't take kindly to people who try to blame his software for their own mistakes.

38
BUT it completely messed up my files: every single file that could get tagged by the software automatically got moved around (in the music bee folder, and creating hundreds of subfolders, sometimes with only 1 file in it...

Are you actually looking at your file system, or are you commenting on what you see in MB?

MB will not move or modify files unless you tell it to. If your files really have been physically moved, it's because you must have used the auto-organise function. You could use that same function to undo most of the damage done, provided your media has been tagged correctly.

39
Am I going to hit any limitations keeping it like this?

Well, eventually, you will hit the limit of how many files you can have in a Windows file system folder...

If you ever need to look in the windows folder, you will be scrolling for a long time...

I can see no benefit to a flat file organisation over a simple, two level, disc-based folder hierarchy of AlbumArtist\Album\track.wav with one folder per album.

That structure allows you to have a folder.jpg image for each album, and store riplogs for each album, and easily find, move, copy or re-rip any album.

If you wanted to adopt a folder hierarchy, MB can do it for you automatically, using the auto-organise function, using a suitable naming template, assuming your files have correct metadata tags. If they're not tagged properly. MB can be instructed to infer tags from your carefully-formed filenames.

Oh, and yes; convert your files to FLAC. Smaller, better tagging, but still bit-perfect reproduction.

Questions / Re: Some Albums Not Being Identified In MusicBee
« on: July 30, 2019, 08:56:40 AM »
Your files are missing metadata tags.

Since you seem to have well-formed filenames, you could also get MB to infer metadata from the filenames.

Select album.
Tools/Tagging Tools/Auto-Tag by Track/Infer and Update Tags from Filename

Use the template:

<Album Artist>-<Album>-<Track#>-<Title>

Ah. That would explain it....

Thanks.

Questions / Re: Accessing DLNA servers in MusicBee
« on: July 21, 2019, 08:05:25 PM »
I've got the plugin installed, but I can't find the means to select servers to browse; that's the bit I'm struggling to remember...

44
On low resolution displays (e.g. 1024x768), the plug-in configuration dialogue boxes don't fit on the screen, and, lacking a scroll bar, you can't easily accept the settings, as you can't get to the 'OK' button.

You can tab to the OK button, waiting for it to scroll round to the first setting, and then shift-tabbing back twice to get to the 'OK' button. But on some larger config dialogue boxes, some of the settings are unavailable.

Am I missing something, or should I put this in as a feature request?

Questions / Accessing DLNA servers in MusicBee
« on: July 21, 2019, 06:45:58 PM »
I have confidently stated that MB can access a DLNA Server, and play music from it. I'm sure this must be based on experience of actually doing it. But I can't, at the moment, find remember how to do it...

Can anyone remind me, please...?
