Try this as the virtual tag. It's what I use and it works as expected:
$If(<Disc Count>>1,$IsNull(<Disc#>,Null,"Disc "<Disc#>),)

NB: It will not show a disc number if there is only one disc in the set.

Thanks Phred.  That's a more sophisticated formula for multi-disc albums, which I will glady start using.  I have to two installs of mb on my pc, a full install and a portable running mb 3.2 beta.  Your code works on the full install without issues, but as was the case with what I was using earlier, isn't displayed on the portable running 3.2 beta when ‘Album Covers’ is selected to view a collection.  Having said that, it does work on 3.2 beta when using 'Album and Tracks'.  Starting to think this may be a minor bug...

I really like seeing a "Disc 1, Disc 2 etc" sub-heading for multi-disc albums.  I’ve assigned $If(<Disc Count>>1,"Disc "<Disc#>,) to a virtual tag and I’ve selected this tag as a sub-group heading  -  following the instructions set out here: https://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=15094.0.  But I can no longer find the ‘Expanded Panel Settings’ in 3.2 beta and I can’t get the multi-disc sub heading to display when I’m using ‘Album Covers’ to view my collection.  Is there anything that can be done to get this to work?

MusicBee Wishlist / Re: Chromecast Audio support
« on: January 08, 2018, 05:12:22 PM »
I agree with d_abbatelli, in that  BubbleUPnP is a good workaround.

There are also a couple of Gitbub projects which may be of interest: 'Chromecast Audio Stream' (https://github.com/acidhax/chromecast-audio-stream) appears to be an alternative workaround to BubbleUPnP; and for the techies, 'SharpCaster' (https://github.com/Tapanila/SharpCaster), a Chromecast C# SDK for Windows, though this project is still at beta stage..

This idea relates to the development of a new routine (plugin ??), that when activated brings up a dialog box listing the values that have been assigned to two or three multi-value tags (for instance the genre and sub-genres) for the currently selected track or album.   The user selects any combination of these, which behind the scene the routine adopts as filtering criteria; then presses OK, which closes the dialog box and quickly and automatically filters the library based upon what’s just been selected.  Below is a mock-up of what this dialog box could llool like if Kate Bush’s Hounds of Love was selected (with its tag values derived from Discogs).  From this it would be exceptionally easy for the user to filter out lets say 'Art Rock', 'Experimental' and 'Electronic' as the genre, or just 'Synth-Pop', or whatever..

Given that some folk will be interested in things such as mood, instruments, composers etc I suggest there should be the ability to customize the routine with the user able to determine the tags that its based upon.

MusicBee Wishlist / Re: Proposal: Extend 'Genre' hierarchy with 'Subgenre'

Bit late, but I'm another one who would love to see subgenres linked to genres - as outlined in this suggestion

MusicBee Wishlist / Re: Music Explorer/ Groove music replacement
« on: December 27, 2017, 05:02:18 PM »
It’s a shame that Microsoft has decided to close Groove music down, as it was based on an extensive catalogue of music.  Going forward, it would be great if you could contiune to use MB to preview tracks from alternative streaming services – perhaps iTunes or Google Play Music, as they also feature extensive catalogues.  Having said that, Bandcamp would go down well with me as well.

I find the ‘Open in Web Browser’/’custom web links’ a very useful feature of MB.  I have two suggestions to make it even better:

1. Remove the restriction that this feature only works for the current playing track; and
2. Incorporate the feature into the ‘context menu’, so that when a user has right clicked a track 'Open in Web Browser' is listed as one of the ‘Search...’ options.

but it would be great if MB could capitalise on this improvement and have a simple method of switching between WASAPI Exclusive and Event modes, which doesn’t involve modifying an ini file.

Could it be you are mixing-up some terminology here?
Maybe you meant something like 'wasapi shared' instead of 'event'?

Yep, you're right I should have said 'wasapi shared' - that was written in haste

event mode can be set from the Player preferences panel
I really appreciate you getting back to me Steve and to be completely honest I had have looked that setting on the preference panel – doh!! Anyway, its good news if the improvements in WASAPI shared mode can be achieved be installing the new BASSWASAPI driver.

Having read https://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=16030.msg132459#msg132459 I gather that MB is currently configured to use WASAPI in exclusive mode, though it is possible to change this by modifying  MusicBee3Settings.ini – in a process that if I get it right, involves adjusting buffer settings.

Earlier this year Microsoft announced that starting with Windows 10, applications using event-mode WASAPI can request buffer sizes smaller than 10ms (see https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/mt298187%28v=vs.85%29.aspx); and on the back of this, very recently, a new BASSWASAPI driver has been released, adding support for lower latency Event mode in Windows 10 (http://www.un4seen.com/download.php?basswasapi24).

I guess there’s a possibility that some users could be using Windows 7, or even XP (??), which I appreciate may complicate things, but it would be great if MB could capitalise on this improvement and have a simple method of switching between WASAPI Exclusive and Event modes, which doesn’t involve modifying an ini file.

Questions / Re: How do I display the ‘Style’ field?
« on: December 04, 2017, 08:11:16 PM »
I'm not aware of a built in style field.  Where have you seen that? It might be a custom tag.

Thanks for coming back to me psychoadept. I've used a script to mp3tag to pull off artwork, genre and style details from Discogs.  Using MB’s Inspector Tag utility, it seems that the script wrote the ‘style’ info to a tag that is coded as: ‘TXXX/STYLE’:

Questions / How do I display the ‘Style’ field?
« on: December 04, 2017, 04:25:15 PM »
Please can anybody tell me how to go about displaying the ‘style’ field, whilst using the ‘Tracks’ view.  I had hoped that it would be just a matter of selecting it from ‘Set Displayed fields’, but it doesn’t appear to be listed there

Questions / Re: Stream to receiver/amplifier over Ethernet?
« on: December 01, 2017, 01:34:06 PM »
Thanks a lot!

I installed it and after restarting MB, Windows asked permission to use the Network so that part seems to work.

If you know of a simple way to test this (on this or another PC connected to my network) before I decide to buy the amplifier I'll be glad to hear about it.

There's a good solution to this, which is pretty straightforward and free.  On your second machine, the one which you won’t to hear MB, download and install Ohplayer, available via the PC 'Try it now' icon on this page: http://openhome.org/pages/use/index.html (There's also versions for Linux, Mac's and Pi's).  Having done that go to: C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenHomePlayer and run the executable 'OpenhomePlayer'.  It will run in a minimised state on the taskbar.  Finally, return to the PC on which MB is installed and select the player tab from preferences; and, if you've already installed MB's UPnP-DLNA Plugin, you should notice that your second machine is now listed as an audio output - select this and hopefully the job is done! Music from MB should playback on that second machine.

On a side note, if you’re looking to buy an amplifier or receiver to stream music from MB, or indeed another source, you should be aware that many hi-fi manufactures have developed their own proprietary, interpretation of what the UPnP protocol should entail and ultimately this implies that there isn’t really a common, fully adhered to standard to streaming music via this method.  This could mean there are issues with steaming music and possibly it may not work all.  IMHO this doesn’t mean that there’s anything wrong with MB’s UPnP-DLNA Plugin – I for one have never experienced any issues with it.  Fingers crossed that streaming will also be good for you, but if it isn’t I suggest you try running BubbleUPnP Server in the background (http://bubblesoftapps.com/bubbleupnpserver/)

Another reason why MB is brilliant: I raised this as a potential bug yesterday and less than 12hrs later Steven issues a fix 8). See - https://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=23424.msg136748#msg136748

Bug Reports / Re: At times Context menu fails to list plugins.
« on: November 30, 2017, 10:23:54 AM »
seems its been that way since v3.0
this should fix it:
http://musicbee.niblseed.com/V3_1/MusicBee31_Patched.zip

unzip and replace the existing files

Many thanks Steven, that was super quick!! Yep, that patch resolves the issue.
