It's all working for me now. Thanks! I really like not having to use the zero width whitespace in my virtual tags now.

Thank you for this! I'm finding that Example 2 doesn't work if you use a virtual tag instead of a custom tag for the Sub-Grouping. I sub-group using a virtual tag that's based on the release type (the Grouping tag), and it doesn't follow the custom sort order. Virtual tags in the left main panel follow the custom sorting, but the same virtual tag doesn't sort correctly with sub-grouping in the main panel.

Questions / Re: Shouldn't ASIO be exclusive?
« on: September 23, 2024, 06:37:11 PM »
Apologies if I shouldn't be bumping a thread this old, but I ran into this same question and discovered a potential reason why ASIO may not appear to be exclusive in some cases. I have a FiiO K11 R2R DAC and I discovered that for it's particular implementation of ASIO that it will allow multiple audio streams at the same time as long as the sampling rate is the same for all of the streams. So if I'm listening to music on MusicBee using ASIO and it has a 44.1kHz sampling rate and the Windows default audio format is set to 48kHz for my DAC then I can't play any other audio in the browser or anywhere else. But if I switch the Windows audio format to 44.1kHz for my DAC then it allows me to play other sources even while MusicBee is playing.

Thought this was an interesting case and thought it might be helpful for others that may have come across this.

Questions / Re: "Scan Folders for New Files" - Question
« on: April 11, 2023, 03:18:40 PM »
thanks for sending the log information.
It looks like when you have a playlist that refers to deleted files or to files smaller than the small file size cutoff setting, the update count will always include those files.
This fixes that issue:
https://getmusicbee.com/patches/MusicBee35_Patched.zip
unzip and replace the existing musicbee application files
Oh wow, it didn't even occur to me to check my playlists after all the library changes.  :-X  Whoops. Thank you!

if it is still happening right now with actual examples then i can create a debug version to see what is going on
It is currently happening for me. Is there something you would need from me for that? I'm not familiar with the process.

I've seen this as well, and when I go to the Tracks view and sort by Date Modified it doesn't show any files as being updated. Like right now when I run a scan it says 36 updated every time, but when I look in the tracks view the most recent file that was updated was from 2 days ago. I have made a decent amount of changes to the library recently.

The only way I've been able to get rid of it is by create a temporary library and doing a fresh scan of my music folder, and then replacing the mbl file in my library with the clean one I just created in the temporary library.

I posted mine a while back but I've made a few small updates. The biggest change was putting genres in the left panel for filtering albums in the main panel, where I have the albums grouped by album artist. I have the Details and Tracks on separate tabs I can switch between depending on what I want to see. I like having a really large album art view in the main player but also want to see the playlist if necessary. This is the Dark-Fine Tuned Teal skin with some small modifications.

Questions / Re: Grouping by path, not just folder
« on: September 29, 2018, 11:25:45 AM »
Has Folder Name always been available tag in MusicBee and I missed it? I've been using a virtual tag to get the folder name for a long time now.

Plugins / Re: Recommended WinAmp plugins
« on: May 20, 2017, 05:33:30 PM »
Has anyone tried the AudioBurst FX output plugin with MusicBee? I imported it from Winamp and I think it gives a great sound, but gapless playback doesn't seem to be working properly in MusicBee. It actually skips the last little bit of a track every time the track changes, so if there is no silence between the tracks you can actually hear the previous track get cut off on a track change. I think it might be a buffering issue because when I decrease the buffer size in the AudioBurst settings to as low as it will go (0.5 seconds), less of the track gets cut off but you can still hear a slight hitch. This makes me think if I could put the buffer in AudioBurst at zero it would not get cut off at all, but that wouldn't really be ideal anyway. When I used it in Winamp it worked fine with the default 2 second buffer.

Anyway, I was just curious if anyone else had tried it or if anyone had any ideas or work-arounds that could solve this.

Edit: Does MusicBee do it's own buffering regardless of the output plugin? Could it be that the buffering that MusicBee does is interfering with the AudioBurst buffering? Is there a way to turn off buffering in MusicBee so that it's only controlled by the output plugin? Sorry, just think out loud here.

Questions / Re: Converting FLAC to ALAC
« on: April 21, 2017, 09:55:33 PM »
Thanks, that must be it. Is it possible to convert to 24-bit ALAC?

I don't use ALAC files at all so I'm not sure. There's likely something you can add to where it says 'encoding parameters' in your image above to keep it at 24bit.

Those are really large file sizes for flacs and they have a high bitrate which makes thing they might be 24bit flac files. It looks like it's converting them into 16bit ALAC files, so you would be losing some information but they are still very high quality. There might be a setting for keeping them at 24bit on conversion if that's what you want.

If you go into the tag editor in MusicBee and click on the Properties tab you can see what type of flac files they are.

I think the only way to change that is to change the default font size under Preferences>Layout(1)>general.

Plugins / Re: UPnP/ DLNA device support
« on: April 10, 2017, 01:02:38 PM »
Hi Steven, Hi all!

I just recently discovered MusicBee and love this software from the start.
I now wanted to use the dlna functionality for my Yamaha RX-V477, but my receiver does not recognise MusicBee,
the "server" selection is empty.

This is what my UpnpErrorLog.dat shows:
2; 1 Initialise - 07.05.2015 20:09:06
16; 2 GetNetworkAddresses - 192.168.2.5,dns=True,name=LAN-Verbindung 4,speed=1000000000
16; 3 GetNetworkAddresses - http://192.168.2.5:49382
153; 4 ProcessMessage 192.168.2.58 - device 'uuid:5f9ec1b3-ed59-1900-4530-00a0deb738f0:Yamaha RX-V477',valid=True
1440; 5 Profile - Generic Device, useragent=Linux/2.6.35 UPnP/1.0 NDS_MHF DLNADOC/1.50
1475; 6 Profile - Generic Device, useragent=Linux/2.6.35 UPnP/1.0 NDS_MHF DLNADOC/1.50

I can however choose the Yamaha as my output device in the MB setting, so MB sees the receiver, but the receiver does not see MB.
Sadly, this approach does not output audio on the receiver.

With this approach the log looks like this:
3; 1 Initialise - 07.05.2015 20:51:49
16; 2 GetNetworkAddresses - 192.168.2.5,dns=True,name=LAN-Verbindung 4,speed=1000000000

However i am able to use WMP to play files from the MB server. I can even play files from MB over WMP and output to my RX-V477, but i cannot
get my RX-V477 do directly recognise the MB server (it sees the wmp-server however when activated).

Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Tobias

So I have had this same problem with my Yamaha RX-V777 receiver where it won't recognize the MusicBee server, but I think I found a work around. Basically I found that if I use BubbleUPnP to manage the server and select the option to 'Create a proxy Media Server on this LAN', my receiver will recognize the proxy MB server and I can browse the library through my receiver.

It's kind of a work around and maybe not ideal since now some other devices I have see both servers, but it at least works. Just thought I would throw this out there as a possible solution for anyone else having this problem with a Yamaha receiver.

Questions / Re: Problems with grouping albums
« on: April 04, 2017, 04:10:26 PM »
Thanks for the answer, the thing is, when i click on it, it says that Artists is selected, and Albums doesn't even appear on the list,  :|

And It's not a problem with the french Language pack, I tried switching it to english, and it show Albums when Artists is actually selected, I tried the otehr options but none of them worked. :|
Sorry if this is a dumb suggestion, but have you tried switching to another view (such as Tracks or Album Covers) and then switching back to Artists? I've had some sorting issues before that were resolved by doing this. I think it just resets the view.
