Questions / Re: Help! I can't save MB .sde EQ Presets
« on: March 05, 2016, 02:24:44 PM »
Another solution without having to resort to "Run as Administrator", which can have larger impact, is to do the following:

1. Go to the MB installation folder i.e. c:\Program Files (x86)\MusicBee\
2. Right click on "Equalizer" folder and go to properties.
3. Change to Security tab.
4. Click on the "Edit..." button (with shield icon)
5. In the popup window, click on "Add..." button.
6. In the new popup window, in the "Enter the object name ..." text box, just type your windows username and click on "Check Names". If it changes to <Machine_name\username> then the username is correct. Click OK.
7. Back to the previous popup, ensure your user is selected in the upper section and then enable "modify" under "Allow". Click Ok.
8. Back to previous properties/ security window. Click OK.

DONE!! Now, you will be able to save the presets at the default location without "Run as Administrator".

Hi,

Currently, the current preset active with "auto-select by genre" is not visible anywhere. Would love to see the same just under the equalizer icon in the main window and also in the equalizer pop-up window (and any other applicable place). This can continued to used for normal preset as well.

Also wrt "auto-select by genre", what happens if there is no equalizer preset matching the genre, does MB continue with previous song's setting or reverts to default/ flat values? I think default would make more sense with appropriate display ("default") under the equalizer icon.

I am new with MB, toyed with it for a week and decided to move to MB. Went through forums for guidance and learnt that inbox as a concept is new for many. I played with multiple libraries and virtual and MTP devices and also organizing my music files. Sharing the workflow that I finalized for the community here.

Pre-Workflow - MusicBee preferences:
- On startup check for updated/missing files
- Scan monitored folders on startup only
- Add to inbox
- Auto-organization is pre-configured but not enabled
- mark and send duplicates to the inbox

Finalized Workflow:
- OS: Add new files to a "watched" folder; *this will add files to inbox/ unorganized*
- Inbox: Fix the Artist name & Album name tags for the album/ compilation
- Inbox: For Albums - Auto-Tag by Album (Ctrl + Shift + L)
OR Inbox: For Compilations - Auto-Tag by Track -> Identify Tracks & update (Ctrl + L)
- Inbox (for both): Auto-Tag by Track -> Missing Artwork
- Inbox (for both): Auto-Tag by Track -> Missing Lyrics
[If lyrics not found, in Lyrics Tab - Search Google -> copy from browser -> Paste clipboard lyrics into Music File]
- Inbox (for both, *optional*): Convert as per choice (all default) > Archive/ delete originals after conversion
- Inbox (for album/ compilation):  Select the converted files;  File ->  Organize Files (Ctrl + R) (Personalize char mapping, if you must - I replaced space with underscore)
(check "add converted to Library" and Move); *this will organize the music files and add them to the library*
- Library: Select Album/Compilation set: Analyse Volume (Ctrl + Shift + V).
- DONE!! You may keep updating metadata but avoid changing basic tags like artist, album - used for organizing files.

PS: I like a few also did not like the Media/ music files to be within the library folder and so made necessary changes. Its okay to do so :-). Now my folder structure is something like:
  _MusicBee
        _library
              resources (artist pictures, etc)
              collection (MusicBee database)
        _unorganized (watched folder/ for inbox)
        Music (for organized music)
        Playlists
        Podcasts

Media files are getting transferred to the device alright, along with the playlist files but they (.pla) are empty ... no question of it pointing to correct device path as they are empty.

I actually wasn't trying to access the .pla file from windows or the .m3u from MB, instead on the device i9500 itself.

The .pla files are indeed 0 bytes - checked its content as well and its empty. All other types have playlist info but not playing on the device though for .m3u it identifies the file type and lists the applications for opening it with but fails.

Questions / Syncing playlist to MTP device
« on: February 27, 2016, 12:10:35 PM »
Hi,

Syncing default playlists (for now) from MusicBee to i9550 (with MIUI7 custom ROM) as MTP device. Tried all formats - m3u, m3u8, wpl and pla. While first 3 have playlist data, none are playable by any application though m3u and m3u8 are recognized as playlists. "pla" is empty with such sync and thus not useable. Bug?

Not sure on further course of action.

Thanks Alumni. Also, could you comment on "tagging must be done before moving to library WHEREAS the metatags (say lyrics), arkwork could even be updated after moving media to library".

- The timing for analyze volume seems in your case to depend more on whether you want to add the replaygain tags to the source files as well before conversion.
- For tracks that you already have other tracks in the same album in your library, it would be better to analyze volume after sending them to library with all files in the album selected to calculate a correct album gain value, otherwise they will have different values.

@Redwing, If understand you correctly, this means that the analyse volume can be done in either inbox or library as long as its done at entire album level AND of course after conversion. Did I get that right?

- With auto-organization enabled, sending to library will move the files to organized folders automatically if you have your files properly tagged.

Does this mean that the "move to library" with auto organize is subject to proper tagging? What is the criteria for proper tagging?
- Continuously monitoring your inbox folders and library folders allows you to edit and move files externally with constant update in MB real time.

Not clear. Could you elaborate?

Thanks Alumni.

My preferences are already in sync except I have "mark and send duplicates to the inbox" enabled. Care to comment?

Further, so your suggestion is to organize the media in inbox itself, okay. When would you recommend conversion - before or after "Analyze Volume" and why?

Questions / Media - Inbox/unorganized to Library/organized
« on: February 26, 2016, 03:33:07 PM »
Hi,

Toying with MusicBee for more than a week and I love it. Shifting to MusicBee!!

Need help on this: What are the ideal steps to add music to library from inbox? I tried the following: fixing tags -> move to library (this did not move the media from inbox/ unorganized to organized automatically) -> move folder (organize) -> convert (this did not add to library the new converted files) -> manually moved converted to inbox -> removed original media from library -> added converted media to library.

I was thinking of trying: fixing tags -> convert in source folder -> be satisfied with conversion -> add converted to library. However, I thought it may be better to just ask.

<b>FYI, I have gone through</b> http://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=9858.msg58829#msg58829. Even though a wizard may not be provided but is the wiki done?
