I believe  Sveakul was kind enough to  make a tutorial on installing the portable version is in the tips and tricks section. maybe this needs to be expanded upon and added to the FAQs?

MusicBee Wishlist / Re: We want more! ;-) (custom tags)
« on: March 24, 2024, 07:15:42 AM »
Hi guys,
Just my two cents but while Steven has stated multiple times that he won’t be adding any additional custom tags, i see this request  as more aimed towards making certain tags native to Musicbee ie “Involved People List” etc. If this and a few other more common tags is added then I would expect the majority of people will have a few custom tags freed up for any of the more obscure ones they might be using. I for one am in this group of users.
Cheers Aaron

I don’t believe this can be done with Musicbee as far as I’m aware.

Questions / Re: Mouse Wheel Functionality
« on: February 12, 2024, 09:03:42 AM »
Hi there,
No this cannot be changed via settings. There was a thread about the volume up/down when hovering over the progress bar, and I think this was the expected behaviour.

@steven,

Is there any chance of these getting added for version 3.6? Thanks for your time.

Beyond MusicBee / Re: MusicBrainz Picard q & a thread
« on: February 12, 2024, 08:54:27 AM »
Now to start tackling the sort tags. Wondering if it’s better to just use the standard sort values or try the additional artist variables plugin sort tags.
Personally I don't care about or use any differentiating 'sort' tags or values.
(except for the names of classical composers in my classical setup)
I also don't care about ignoring words such as 'The' etc.

In case it interests you, for preparing and modifying artists/performers and their roles I use the following three Picard plugins:

Additional Artists Variables
Format Performer Tags
Performer Tag Replace

The more I can use Picard to write the tags exactly as I want them, the less I have to worry about additional processing in MusicBee.

edit:
I also have some testing script that retrieves all such additional performer tags in the same manner that my testing script for additional recording and release info does. (001_variable_a  002_variable_b  etc.)
If you are interested I can share that one tonight.

@Hiccup, I’m interested in how you use the performer replace plug in? I’m also curious how you use it in conjunction with scripts?
Any examples or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Frankz,

So I can ensure your complaint gets handled by the relevant department, as quickly as possible,  how would you like us to handle it? Our options are as follows:
1) Send it to our support team immediately?
2) Add it to the queue for our support team?
3) file it amongst the other 10 000 requests that our support team have. They may respond in 1 hour or 1 year?
4) Never respond to your enquiry no matter how long you hold the line for.
Regards

Questions / Updating/Refreshing Library & Auto Playlists
« on: January 01, 2024, 02:22:22 AM »
Hi All,

Just wondering what the best way to refresh all auto playlists etc? I thought these were done in real time but I've found a few not updating for quite a few minutes. I get a little forgetful as to which one of these works best as they all sound a little similar/vague. As i understand it the behaviour for each of these is:
1. View - refresh = Refreshes current layout view
2. Files - Scan folders for new files = Scans music folders for new files and adds them to your library (or inbox depending on settings)
3. Tools - advanced - Rescan all files = Rescans the entire library and updates/changes any tags or artwork that is different from the current database. i.e. you have changed some files in a external program.
4. Tools - Advanced - Synchronise tags = Force synchronises file tags with the database. (this happens automatically but not always straight away if I'm correct?)
5 Tools - Advanced - Compress Library = Removes any dead links to music files no longer in your library from the database
6. Right-Click - Send to - File rescan = Only rescans the currently selected music files for tag changes/artwork.

Let me know if i have any of these incorrectly.

+10 on this bump.

Making the tags you have mentioned native would be my first preference. Having the Musicbrainz identifiers would be great but there is quite a few of them which would be laborious I would imagine.
Thanks Steven!

Questions / Re: CD Albums catalog workflow
« on: December 09, 2023, 04:57:38 AM »
@hiccup,
That’s a very good suggestion. I hadn’t thought about using discogs for this. But the more I think about it the more it makes sense. You’re right, the thought of scanning each individual album, ep, vinyl was a daunting task.

Questions / CD Albums catalog workflow
« on: December 03, 2023, 05:11:18 AM »
G’day All,

I wasn’t sure weather to put this in here or general discussion, so I apologise if it needs to be moved.

My Father is winding down in life and has given me his record/CD Album collection of around 350 albums at a guess. He’s requested a list of all the albums he’s got in case he wants to borrow one in the future. I was thinking of making a PDF Catalog of some sort that he could print and flick through complete with artwork.
What would the best workflow for this? My thoughts are the additional tags plug in library reports for the final report, but what template would suit this project.

Any advice, suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers Dizza
