MusicBee Wishlist / A check box and a text box walk into a bar
« on: December 08, 2022, 11:39:30 AM »
In the preferences window:

Under Now Playing > Play Now action:

A new indented option on the red like, like blue square Reset future Auto DJ tracks

Why?
In my case, when running Auto DJ sometimes I will play a different track to shift the mood if I see the next several songs don't fit the current mood. Currently I can only get this behavior by also losing the history of played tracks. This option would allow Auto DJ to queue the song next, play that song, and clear/regenerate the upcoming tracks. The user could then still see the (brief) history of played tracks.

Under Tags (1) > lyrics storage:

Local file search syntax - a textbox where the user can change from %filename%.lrc to any other syntax to search for locally stored lyrics, preferably a comma separated list. This could also be expanded upon to allow looking for lyrics in other folders, such as when users have the songs and lyrics in separate folders.
Example:
<filename>.lrc, <artist> - <title>.lrc, <artist>-<title>.lrc, <filename>.txt, <artist> - <title>.txt, <artist>-<title>.txt
Why?
Because unfortunately lyrics and especially services for synchronized lyrics come and go, and those services will save lyrics in whatever format they allow at the time. This way users can allow MusicBee to easily use an already existing collection of lrc files without altering any files.

Sorry there's no actual joke here - I couldn't really think of one... But if you do, let me know and I'll update the post  ::)

click on word  "visualizer" at panel header and select "hide panel header".
Yep that did it, not sure how I missed it. Thanks!

Did you manage to get it working on your end?

Visualizers / Re: Winamp "Classic Spectrum Analyzer" plugin with MusicBee

Hi everyone,

So I'm basically posting this for anyone experiencing similar issues.

I did a fresh install of MB (portable since it and my library is on an external SSD), and only added a couple of lyric source plugins and a few visualizers.

This one didn't seem to work for me, I can open it and view it just fine when I click on MusicBee > View > Start Visualizer - however right clicking it creates a transparent context menu which turns black as soon as I click anywhere else on MB and then it just freezes.

The music will keep playing just fine but I can't do anything until I force close MB.

I tried this method but at first - and only at first - I got the same error as in this gif. After that I can add the panel anywhere and I don't see any class errors, however the right click just doesn't work anymore while the visualizer is in the (bottom atm) panel. It only shows if I have it in a dedicated visualizer tab, and as soon as it does show, transparently, anything else I do will crash MB.

I also removed all of my other visualizers in the meanwhile - the Arrange Panels window did freeze multiple times while I was trying it out, and I think removing other visualizers might have fixed this but I'm not 100% certain. It froze differently than the context menu glitch - as that one will cause the program to not respond according to Windows, and the Arrange Panels issue just caused MB to become unresponsive, however Windows felt like everything was fine :P

Then I randomly tried switching the visualizer in the bottom panel from CSA to some default one, and when I switched back to CSA - the right click was magically working, the properties window would appear, and I could even right click it in the Visualizer tab (however this tab looks weird now since the bottom panel is showing there too, albeit empty)

Also, I thought the Now Playing was mostly hardcoded but the bottom panel now shows there too, with a header unfortunately, but it's there nonetheless.

So, in conclusion, I'm not sure what exactly I did but now it works and hopefully this helps someone with a similar problem   ::)

well, backing up 300gb is the problem, but re-organiznig files (actually just renaming/moving, but not copying) must not  be a big problem.

I guess I'm just worried something will go wrong, I mean from a programmatical point of view it's really just renaming the files and not doing anything to the data within it, right? I just worked a lot on my library - but if nobody had any issues with the re-organize feature then I suppose I can just re-organize it straight away :)

If you right-click inside the window then you will see its menu--"Properties" is what you want.

Your right click menu looks an awful lot like the white square which glitched MB in my screenshot :D I'll take the issue to that thread - now I know what exactly crashes it. Thanks!

Hey thank you both for your suggestions  :D

i'd recommend to rename music file, actually it's called in mb "organize files" (manually! and 1st, backup your library!) to fit names of .lrc files. then rescan music files to pick up lyrics files, and re-organize music files again to desired pattern (this should re-organize .lrc files as well).

Like I said I would really want to avoid doing something like this since I have around 300gb of data to organize/backup - but if this does turn out to be the only solution then I'm glad to hear MB can automate that  :) It's a one off thing and I suppose it couldn't hurt to have the files renamed and organized in that manner as well. Would still prefer to just change the syntax if possible though.

Regarding the plugins, neither seem to be able to replace the one in Now Playing, it seems I can choose only from Visualizer or Wave Bar, but none seem to have a settings window (that I can find).

I like the classic spectrum analyzer, I'm still finding my way around the software so I can't find the dialogs you kindly attached - however double clicking on it does...

I have the latest MB and the plugin should support it, so maybe I'm missing some prerequisites, though I'm pretty sure I'm up to date with all the .NETs and DirectXs  ::)

Questions / Regarding synchronized lyrics
« on: November 26, 2022, 03:27:43 PM »
Hi everyone, I just recently took up MusicBee after 10+ years of using foobar as my main player

I'm super happy with everything and MB really grew since I first heard about it. There is however two things that I didn't manage to figure out by researching:

First: Is there a way to adjust the syntax that MB uses to find locally stored lyrics?
I only found a workaround that requires me to have minilyrics installed, which is sadly really unstable and outdated (I'm not able to upload anything for a while, I don't think anyone else is able to either). MB is already looking for locally stored lyrics but it appears to be hardcoded to find .lrc files which match the <filename> of the playing song. However in my case, all .lrc files have the "<artist> - <title>.lrc" naming (I believe it was minilyrics default)

Is it possible to simply change this syntax from <filename>.lrc to <artist> - <title>.lrc?
I could rename all my song files to <artist> - <title>, but it's a big library and I want to avoid doing file changes if I don't have to  :-X

Second, more like a bonus question about the Now Playing tab:

This visualizer runs at maybe a bit lower frame rate than I would expect it to. Is it possible to either change the refresh rate / frame rate, or maybe just replace it with a plugin visualizer? I would also increase the height but that's just finesse.

If these were already answered or I'm missing something obvious - I'm sorry, I tried  :P
