Dear friends, since the lock down started, I've been trying to solve the problem of my classic liquid collection...it's really difficult!
Someone wondered why the default tags are often wrong ... because whoever inserts them is ignorant, simple!
Because classical music tags have to be different from the others!
I try to follow you with a lot of interest but I have difficulties with your language...I gave up for the moment to set MB or others (foobar, Jriver, MediaMonkey) too complicated for my computer knowledge...and I completed the database of Lyric Operas (audio and video) using excel...an exhausting work, but I wonder: maybe the time required to write a line of excel is so much longer than the one required with other systems?
The excel file is perfect, with all the columns corresponding to my needs ( Composer - Title - Conductor - Orchestra - Soloist - Date of recording !!! ( no CD release) - Label - Front - back - filetype - bitrate - notes )
Of course it is an exhaustive database.
But now I don't have the courage to face 2 TB of symphonic, chamber music, liederistics...
So I thought, why not invent scripts that could help excel's writing? For example, using picard or mp3tag to automate the metadata search and then enter it in excel...could it be a good way to go? I believe that for us frustrated users of the classic there is no better graphical way than excel to display large amounts of data. Then the research that excel allows is endless...
I do not want to be misunderstood, I am admired by your skills and I would follow you very willingly, but your path is also fraught with difficulties, I see!
Greetings, everyone, and forgive my English!

Hi,
I really need your help!
I would like to create a library of my liquid music collection on external HD.
Unfortunately the collection is of classical music and, as you know, it is difficult to catalogue.
One of the biggest problems are the tags and metadata, the default ones are often inaccurate and approximate, if not even wrong ( the reason remains a mystery )
Now since quarantine began, I've been making many unsuccessful attempts.
My wish would be to have a navigable library organized as follows:
Left column with Composers names ( done )
Then clicking on a Composer I would like to have the Compositions ( not the albums like now ) displayed.
Then clicking on a Composition I would like to see a list of all the different performances of the same composition ( for example all the recordings of a Symphony without the single tracks but with all the tags - as I will write later - ).
Then clicking on the single recording, finally all the tracks.
The tags I need are:
Composer - Composition Name - Conductor - Orchestra - Date - Soloist - Label - Cover - filetype - bitrate.
Do you think MediaMonkey is able to meet these needs?
Would any of you be able to help me?
The second problem is:
my tags are particular and do not respect the normal standard tags...could you help me to find the right matches for Orchestra , Soloist?
Thank you all for your help, I'm sure that among you there will be an expert or a classical music lover who has faced the same problems.
Greetings
