MusicBee Wishlist / Playlist Specific Sorting
« on: May 10, 2017, 09:19:00 AM »
I would just like to request a feature which would allow playlists to have their own sort type. I have some playlists which I'd like to sort by Artist, and others that I like to sort by Album. However, currently, if you select a sort type, it just applies to your view for all playlists in general, which actually affects my playlist syncing to my Android phone.

In the meantime, I've been sorting by a category, then updating the play order, and restoring the natural play order. However, this has to be done every time I add a new song, which is a bit annoying when each playlist could just have their own sorting order.

In addition to this, if individually sorted playlists are implemented, an additional option to auto-organize newly added songs could be included. That is, whenever new songs are added to a sorted playlist, the songs could be automatically placed in the proper position.

I'd greatly appreciate any feature that could add this playlist-specific sorting along with auto-organization of new songs in these sorted playlists.
Thanks!

Bug Reports / Sorting Inconsistent after Album, Artist, and Track #
« on: May 10, 2017, 09:08:44 AM »
When sorting by album or artist, the fallback sorting method is random and inconsistent.

If sorting by album, it seems that it uses artist as a secondary sorting category. For sorting by artist first, the secondary is album.
After this secondary sorting category, the program uses track # to sort as a third category.
My issue arises when the artist, album, and track # are all the same (or track # is empty). In this scenario, the sorting algorithm doesn't seem to have a defined behavior and the order of the tracks just keep flipping randomly. This is a bit annoying when I have to re-sort my playlist after adding a new song, and the order of these songs don't remain consistent.

Below is an example of what I'm talking about, with just simply tapping the Artist sort button a two times without changing the metadata and with the same Album, Artist, and empty Track # for all:

Even though both are simply sorted by Artist, the resulting order changes each time.
The Update Play Order feature is also affected, as it seems be based on the same sorting algorithm.

For a solution, I think it would make sense for the Track Title to be used as a fallback sorting mechanism after all three other categories of album, artist, and track # are the same, as this would lead to a more consistent sorting experience.

Thanks, and I appreciate the help!
