Questions / Don't Understand "Work" and "Composition" field
« on: August 03, 2020, 11:30:47 PM »
I am returning to MusicBee as my player and library manager.  I have been using MusiChi to create and manage my large (32,000+ tracks) library.  I have created a new library in MusicBee.  However, I do not understand why some of my files will have data in the "Work" field, while other files are blank.  When I look at the Tag Inspector, I see data in the Composition tag for both situations.

What is the relationship between the Tag Codes and the data displayed in MusicBee?

How do I get the Work tag to display the Composition data?

Bug Reports / Player Stuttering and Hanging Up - Version 7506
« on: April 29, 2019, 03:41:46 AM »
Recently, my MusicBee player has begun to stutter and hang up.  I am running Windows 10 Pro on a dedicated Music PC.  This problem began several versions ago and has gotten worse as I have upgraded MusicBee versions.

The problem is now bad enough that I have switched from MusicBee to another player.

I am configuring a new HP PC to be used as my dedicated Music Player in my sound system.  All is well, except that I cannot get sound from MusicBee when I choose the WASAPI Exclusive mode.  All other modes, including WASAPI Shared mode work normally.

I have no problem with WASAPI Exclusive mode in my Toshiba PC (my current dedicated music player PC which is being replaced by the new HP machine).

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Bug Reports / Possible Problem With New 3.2 Release and Playback
« on: March 26, 2018, 12:06:55 PM »
Since upgrading to released version 3.2, I have been experiencing an intermittent playback problem.  At times, the player will stop at the end of the track just completed and not go forward to the next track.  At other times, the player will go forward to the next track, but then immediately stop at the beginning of the track.  At still other times, the player will play normally.  The problem seems to occur randomly, but when it begins, it continues until I stop and restart MusicBee.  I am running in WASAPI mode.

Prior to upgrading to Released Version 3.2, I had been running the various 3.2 Patch versions without encountering this issue.

Questions / Keeping Files and Tracks Correlated Between Data Sets
« on: March 05, 2018, 02:14:09 PM »
I have all of my music files stored on two different hard drives.  Each hard drive is associated with a different computer, so I have MusicBee loaded on to both computers.

When I do a "Properties" analysis on each File set, the total number of folders and files compare identically between the two data sets.

However, when I look at the total number of tracks using MusicBee, the total number of tracks are different between the two data sets.  I have performed a "Re-scan all Files" on both computers, but the total track count remains different between the two data sets.

I have two questions:

1.  How can there be a difference in MusicBee total tracks count between the two data sets, when the total files are identical between the two data sets?

2.  What methodology can I employ to find out where the track differences are?

Please note that I have over 26,000 tracks in my data set and the difference between the two sets is about 45 tracks.

Bug Reports / Version 3.2.6626.33698 Possible Bug With Long File Names
« on: February 28, 2018, 10:16:33 PM »
Attempting to add new files to MusicBee.  Message returned is that files do not exist.  Fixing the problem has required that I shorten the total file length throughout the multiple folder path.  I have had this happen twice since implementing 3.2.6626.33698.

The rejected file names are not as long as previously-accepted file names.

Possible bug with this latest 3.2 version.

Beyond MusicBee / Need Help Deleting an Empty Folder on My PC
« on: February 03, 2018, 09:22:34 PM »
I am the Administrator of my PC.  I have an empty folder on my PC which I cannot delete.  I cannot change the Permissions on this folder in order to delete it.  I have tried every front-door and back-door approach I can think of to remove this folder.  Always the same result.  Windows 10 says I need Administrative Permission to change or delete this folder.  However, I cannot make any changes to this folder to alter the permission status - every attempt to do so is denied.  I have tried all the Security approaches - again to no avail - permission denied.

I have done extensive internet research, but have come up with nothing that I have not already tried.

Suggestions?

Bug Reports / MusicBee 3.2.6601 Possible Problem
« on: January 28, 2018, 01:17:04 PM »
I am running MusicBee 3.2.6601.  System is Windows 10 Pro.  Having an issue with MusicBee stopping during play.  Happening repeatedly.  Will play for a couple of minutes, then stops.  I can sometimes restart play, but at other times, I have to reload MusicBee as program becomes unresponsive.

I have been running the 3.2 Patch version for a number of months previously with no problems.  I have been updating the patched version without previous issues.

I will revert to 3.1 latest version, unless there is a way to revert to a previous version of the 3.2 patch.

Questions / MusicBee and Fidelizer
« on: January 13, 2018, 03:36:21 PM »
I have a dedicated Toshiba PC Laptop Running Windows 10 Pro, upon which I am running MusicBee to manage and stream lossless FLAC files to my music system.

I have just downloaded, installed and run the free version of Fidelizer on this PC, identifying MusicBee as my music player and allowing Fidelizer to "optomize" my laptop for dedicated music playing.

All went well and I believe I can hear an improvement in sound (subjective or placebo effect??).

My questions are:

1.  Have other MusicBee users incorporated Fidelizer?

2.  If so, with what results?

3.  What about the benefits of upgrading Fidelizer to their PRO version (about $65.00 US)?

Looking forward to comments.

Questions / Newest 3.1 Version Versus "3.2 Patched" Version
« on: January 10, 2018, 10:19:11 PM »
Hello Steven,

I see that you have just released a new 3.1 update (today 1-10-2018).

I am running the latest 3.2 patched version.

Should I install the latest 3.1 update?

MusicBee Wishlist / Add "Work" Field to Sort Menu

Perhaps this request has been previously posted -- but, if not...........

Please add the "Work" data field to the Sort options.

I have downloaded some test files from NativeDSD.  These files are DSD high resolution music files, recorded and transferred with high-end equipment.  Resolutions of the files I downloaded extend up to 256K - as compared to standard CD 44K resolution.

MusicBee can play these files directly - which surprised me a bit.

However, these file formats cannot be edited in MusicBee.

I am curious as to what is happening when I play these files with MusicBee.

1.  Does MusicBee "translate" or "convert on the fly" or perform some other such action to play these files?

2.  Is MusicBee capable of playing these files at full HD resolutions?  If so, do I need to alter any settings - if so, which ones?

3.  Other than converting these files to FLAC or some other format, is there a way to edit these files in MusicBee?

I am asking these questions because I am interested in the potentially superior sound which these types of files may provide.

Thanks,

I am trying to make the best use of the various options for matching criteria when creating Playlists.  There is a comprehensive list of criteria available (such as "Starts With", "Is Any Of", "Is Not Any Of", "Contains", "Does Not Contain", etc.).  Some of these criteria delimiters are obvious to me, while others are a mystery.

Is there a list of definitions available for these criteria?

Are there examples to illustrate how they work?

For example, I have created a Custom Field called "Style".  I use this field to further define different types of music with major Genre options.  One of my major Genre options is "Classical".  I might define a Style as "Orchestra" for a purely orchestral work with no vocal and no solo instruments.  I might define another Style as Choral to be associate with Classical to indicate a work which is a capella choral singing with no instruments of any kind.

For my example above, how would "Does Not Contain" function?  How would "Is Not Any Of" function?  What is the difference between "Does Not Contain" and "Is Not Any Of"?

And so on.......

Thanks,

Hi Steve,

Currently, Auto-DJ supports random sorts by either Album or Track.  My request is to open up the random sort options to include the Work Field and any other fields you believe to be appropriate.

Adding the Work field will support an Auto-DJ random sort to pick up full compositions, rather than just single tracks, when a classical composition spanning more than one track (a symphony for example) is selected during the random sort.

Thanks for considering this request.

Best,
