I saw a song in the library that I wanted to listen to so I right-clicked and i chose "Play next".

It wasn't played next, instead a song that I'd chosen a few minutes earlier with the same right-click menu was played first.

WHICH IS ONE OF TONS OF REASONS THAT I LOVE THIS SOFTWARE  :-*

Steven Mayall you are a genius, because that is exactly how it should work, putting the "play nexts" into their own subqueue. It's the logical way. It's the way it would work on a jukebox.

I saw this behaviour years ago when I first started using MusicBee and I appreciated it then. Everything starts to make sense the more you use MusicBee.

It is obvious that Steven uses MusicBee to manage and play a lot of music. The functionality shines through.

Just wanted to post some additional appreciation

MusicBee Wishlist / Defaults for content types if possible please
« on: December 23, 2017, 01:56:37 AM »
I leave crossfade on all the time because I love the way it works with music. MusicBee has a clever setting to automatically turn off cross-fading for tracks from the same album. I'd like to see that extended to Podcast Episodes and Audiobook Chapters.

The Equaliser and Volume Adjustments would be even more useful if it was possible to set a different default EQ and Volume Adjustment depending whether content was spoken word or music.

I suppose it could be possible to set EQ by genre, or would that be going to far? What do others think?

Questions / Crossfading

Crossfading in MusicBee works very well, being able to set a flag so that tracks from the same album don't crossfade is brilliant for non-stop / gapless albums.

Is there a way to tell MusicBee not to crossfade chapters in audiobooks and episodes of podcasts?

Questions / Content Defaults

How do I set defaults by content type?

I listen to Podcasts and to Music (sometimes listen to Audiobooks)

Music is always louder - or rather it sounds louder.

Is it possible to tell Podcasts to always play with a plus volume or to always use a certain Equaliser Preset by default?

Questions / Redudancy

Trying to find a way to handle data redundancy.  Is it possible for the MusicBee database to link to the same mp3 file more than once? So that you can have the same song on more than one album without needing more than one copy of it?

Questions / stopping skipped tracks reoccuring
« on: May 24, 2014, 07:42:59 PM »
Does this ever happen to you? When listening to an autoplaylist / playlist mixer selection ??? you skip a track only for it to turn up again twenty minutes later.

It's correct behaviour and I can see why it happens, the track still fits the criteria of the autoplaylist and if you were quick to skip it then it won't be marked as recently played.

It is possible to manipulate playlists by looking at the skip count of a track. Is there anyway I can get shuffle to ignore tracks that have been recently skipped in the same way I can get it to ignore tracks that have been recently played?

It was suggested but I don't feel confident enough yet to write a proper guide for MediaMonkey users who are thinking of changing from MediaMonkey to MusicBee,  I hope to soon.

I would welcome any questions though.

I am/was a long term user of MediaMonkey Gold and got to know that program inside out over the last few years. MediaMonkey is an excellent well-thought out product but MusicBee just has that extra edge.

I successfully brought over all of my MM db - play history, custom grouping etc - to MusicBee. I've also learned how to carry out many common MediaMonkey tasks in MusicBee. As with any powerful program things aren't always immediately obvious.

If you're a MediaMonkey user and want some help with MusicBee from someone who knows MediaMonkey then ask away  :)

MusicBee Wishlist / Wake up next day

Sleep mode is great, reducing the volume and finally stopping. I use it every night.

Would be great to be able to tick a checkbox to restart playback X hours later, slowly increasing the volume. Better than my alarm clock :) :D

Questions / Roll your own
« on: April 29, 2014, 02:05:33 PM »
Being a bit of a loose cannon I opened some of the xautopf playlists in Notepad for a nosey. Was pleased to see they were XML and possibly customizable?

I'd like to use a text editor to speed up creating playlist mixers. Sometimes there'll be a dozen items that are 99% identical and I'd prefer to do it in a text editor.

I think if I could see some example XML and knew what .extension to use and where to place the files I could do it, assuming it's possible?

Questions / Noob question about Now Playing and Playlist Mixers
« on: April 24, 2014, 02:59:30 PM »
I'm used to queuing songs manually in my old player and using the AutoDJ function. MusicBee has many improvements in this area but I'm trying to get my head around a couple of things.

I don't quite understand the criteria for how tracks get automatically added to Now Playing.

Sometimes, but seemingly not always, after starting MusicBee and clicking on a song in the library to get it to play the Now Playing window gets automatically populated with more tracks from that album. Haven't noticed that today so maybe I've toggled it off.  :-\

AutoDJ is pretty straight-forward but I wonder if my criteria is too stringent and it runs out of valid tracks is there anyway to have another playlist to fall back on rather than having silence.  :-[ -

PlaylistMixers are *brilliant*, ;D to do the same thing with my old program (MediaMonkey) meant nesting / cross-referencing loads of autoplaylists and never quite achieved the same result.  :(

What's the proper way to get a Playlist Mixer to play music non-stop for hours? I've got one which produces 7 tracks at a time. Should it be set as the source for AutoDJ (which kind of works but not perfect) or is there another way to get it to loop automatically without having to manually queue up several instances of it?

Questions / please help me make the switch
« on: April 23, 2014, 02:07:52 PM »
Having used MediaMonkey Gold for several years I have a database of 10k songs which I want to play and organise with MusicBee.

It's important to me that the data about when the tracks were added and how often they've been played is copied over to the corresponding fields in the MusicBee database.

MediaMonkey uses an SQL database.  MusicBee can't directly import MediaMonkey's database but can import iTunes XML files, there's a third-party script which is supposed to export the MediaMonkey library as an iTunes XML file but it doesn't work properly. Details like playcount don't get exported correctly.

Nevertheless I imported my music and the XML file into MusicBee but in MusicBee the "date added" value gets changed to the date (such as yesterday) when I did the actual import.

I like to know how long I've had a track for and how many times I've listened to it. I did start organising files in MediaMonkey by year added thinking if I import them a set at a time into MusicBee the most recently added files would kind of correlate (even if they were only hours apart instead of years apart).

It's so frustrating as all of the data is there in the MediaMonkey database and MusicBee has corresponding fields and I want to switch programs as I much prefer the way MusicBee does certain things (better AutoDJ, streaming integration etc.)

I think it's possible to get the MediaMonkey database into Access or Excel, so therefore into CSV and possibly formatted as XML. I feel as if I'm tantalisingly close to the answer but am now going in circles. Any ideas guys?
