I don't know if you're following the other thread, but you should try the patched version offered there and see if it solves your problem.

Thanks for the reference, @frankz.  It did indeed help.

Portable Devices / Re: Android device sync - playlist formatting issue
« on: February 21, 2020, 04:32:54 AM »
Looks good for me with Samsung Galaxy S9 and Android 10 too!

If I use absolute paths with the expansion card, as I have for years, it still just specifies /Music in the m3u playlist, so it doesn't find any music.  But if I change to relative paths, it specifies ../Music (as others have noted), and so music is found.  I didn't know addresses were relative to the playlist directory, as opposed to relative to the install or elsewhere.  It's more portable this way than with the absolute /storage/3638-3264, so that's better anyway.

I'm not sure where the format with the #EXTM3U and #EXTINF tags, which I had described in:
https://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=30840.0
came from...

Thanks for the patch!

Nice catch, @renius28!

This only half fixed the problem for me.  As I mentioned, my music and playlists are on the SD card, so I had to physically add /storage/3638-3264 to the beginning of each line, and then it worked.  Various other permutations, like the SM-G960U1\Card\ used by MusicBee in the computer playlist, didn't work.  I don't much care for this solution, though, because it's not portable.

Looking at some older playlists, which may or may not have come from MusicBee, the format on the SD card is:
#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:357,Test for Echo
/AUDIO/Music/Rush/Test for Echo/01 - Test for Echo.mp3
#EXTINF:268,Driven
/AUDIO/Music/Rush/Test for Echo/02 - Driven.mp3
...

This works in a more general sense, but I'm not familiar with the details of the format.  So for now I guess I'll manually edit the playlists with the forward slashes and specific SD card.

Thanks again for the help,
John

Recently my Samsung Galaxy S9 upgraded to Android 10, and Google Play Music stopped showing album art (among the other problems like occasionally losing playlists), so I moved to Samsung Music.  I've been using MusicBee for several years and several phones, but now when I try to sync the playlists/music, I'm having problems.

I'm trying to sync the music to the SD card, and I don't really care where the playlists go.

- Using the storage path SM-G960U1\Card\ with PLA, and sending the playlist to device, I get the error:
"Copy Failed - A device attached to the system is not functions. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007001F)"
for the playlist, and the SD card becomes unreachable until I disconnect/reconnect the phone.

- If I set the playlist type to M3U, I successfully get a playlist on the device.  When accessed in MusicBee's device menu, I can play the list, and it shows me the music files in the location SM-G960U1\Card\Music\...  The M3U file is in the Playlist directory on the SD card, as intended.

- The problem here is that the Samsung Music app detects the playlist, but not any of the music, so it shows up empty.  If I open the playlist file, the music files are listed in \Music, without any reference to the SD card, so I assume it's looking in the phone main memory.  Other older M3U files in that same directory (from previous versions of MusicBee?) have some sort of reference to the SD card, but not this one.

Thanks for any ideas.  I would think this is a pretty common setup.

Questions / Re: merging two libraries?
« on: January 28, 2020, 02:29:50 PM »
Thanks for the replies, especially frankz!

Moving the second library and associated music and playlists to the first computer and remapping everything was pretty easy.  The remapping feature works well, including bringing my attention to some tracks that were elsewhere.

When I get a chance, I'll try the export/import itunes xml that was suggested by frankz.  If this works, there really isn't need to add a separate function, since it sounds reasonably straightforward.

Thanks again,
John S.

Questions / merging two libraries?
« on: January 23, 2020, 04:18:29 PM »
I have two MusicBee libraries on two different computers and would like to merge them -- including playlists, import history, counts, etc.  I can just move all the music files manually, as there should be little if any overlap.

The simplest way would just be to import the music files from one into the other, but that wouldn't preserve the other information.  I've also looked to see if there is some export/import functionality, where they could be exported into a neutral format (like csv), manually combined, and imported into a new library, but haven't found anything like that.

There was a discussion four years ago:
https://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=18032.0
but I'm hoping a better solution may have arisen.

Thanks,
John S.

Portable Devices / Re: playlists on samsung captivate (android)
« on: August 12, 2011, 08:10:51 AM »
Interestingly enough, MusicBee reads and displays the contents of the m3u playlists just fine on the same SD card in the old phone (Palm Centro).  But in the new phone (Samsung Captivate with Android 2.2), MusicBee sees the m3u playlists on that SD card, but can't read the contents.

I tried your suggestion of using Windows Explorer (in MTP mode), and it showed the references tab (of both m3u and pla), but blank -- and yet they're not blank, because they play on the device.

So it seems like it must be something with the new device or its MTP mode.  I guess I'm ready to give up at this point.

Thanks again,

Thanks for the clarification, Steven.

I have "detect MTP devices" checked.  When I plug in the phone, the phone gives me the choice of Media Player or Mass Storage, so I choose the former.  Then the title on the phone is "MTP application", and I can see the device in MusicBee and all the playlists (both old M3U and new PLA) in the devices window.  However, when I click on any of them, nothing happens.  (Apparently I was incorrect earlier when I said that MB didn't see the PLA lists on the device.)

If I right-click on the device and create a playlist, it puts it under the card on the device (rest of playlists are just under the device itself), and I can assign music and see it in MB.  And when I remove the device, now apparently it is making a liar out of me, because it's in PLA format and the stock Music Player can see and play it.

When I plug the device in again, I can see the new playlist, but not its contents -- same as the others.  I can add music, and then on the device can see the updated playlist.

So it looks like the current problem is that I can see playlist names from the device in MusicBee, whether M3U or PLA, but not see their contents.  If I could see the contents, then I could create new PLA playlists and copy the contents from the old M3U ones.

Thanks again,
John S.

Okay, nobody appears to have a solution, so I'll summarize what I've learned.  Correct me if I'm wrong.

- Apparently MusicBee only reads and writes *.m3u playlists.
- Apparently the Android 2.2 Music Player only reads and writes *.pla playlists.
- No idea how my playlists got renamed *.pla.m3u, but I just renamed them back to *.m3u.

So in order to solve my problem, I downloaded Winamp to the phone.  Now it and MusicBee share the *.m3u playlists, and it's fine for my purposes.  The only drawback is that some apps, like Endomondo, integrate with the standard Music Player, so I can start Winamp before it, but not control Winamp from within it.

Portable Devices / playlists on samsung captivate (android)
« on: August 04, 2011, 05:36:10 AM »
Previously I've used MusicBee with great success on my Palm Centro, and now I got a Samsung Captivate (Android 2.2) and updated MusicBee to the latest.  When I attach the device in DTM mode, MusicBee can see it, and after a bunch of attempts, it miraculously started to see the music and playlists on the card.

The old playlists, however, are showing up as empty.  (The filenames are kind of strange, however, in the form *.pla.m3u.)  Even a new playlist, that I created from MusicBee in a prior session, is showing up as empty.  (This one is just *.pla, though.)  The old ones aren't seen and don't play in the default music player on the phone, which could make sense if the music player doesn't recognize *.m3u, but the new ones can play.

Oh, and the first time I transferred a playlist from MusicBee to this device, it corrupted the *.mp3 file and sent a *.alb file with the album art.

So my questions:
- Is there any way I can recover the old *.pla.m3u playlists that I created in MusicBee on the old device (which are still on the card)?
- Why when I create a new playlist from MusicBee does it later show up empty in MusicBee?
- If I create a new playlist in the default Android music player, why doesn't MusicBee see it?

Thanks,
John S.

Portable Devices / synching artwork
« on: November 15, 2010, 05:37:03 AM »
First of all, great program!

I'm synching MP3 files to my Palm Centro as an MTP device using MusicBee 1.2.3875 (Win7 64-bit).  All the MP3 files already have artwork embedded, but this disappeared when the files were copied to the device.  Previously I had copied the files manually, and the artwork had shown up.

So I went to preferences/device, and saw the "do not copy artwork" radio button is selected.  Does this imply that MusicBee is stripping out the artwork as it copies the files?  I tried to change it to "embed artwork in the music file", but it won't allow me to select either of the other radio buttons.  Why is this?

Thanks,
John S.
