Questions / Re: help: lost ratings for podcast episodes
« on: August 19, 2023, 05:22:17 AM »
I guess I'll have to find a way to save it somewhere that is safer.
Shouldn't be too difficult to set up a regular backup schedule.

The backup doesn't represent the ultimate solution for my needs.  It helped me restore my lost data, but I'm still in a place where the restored data is just going to be lost again if I add some new podcast URLs.

… I guess I'll have to find a way to save it somewhere that is safer.
Have you set MusicBee to store ratings in the files?

Yes, I do have the setting on.  I don't keep all my downloaded podcast episodes though, but I still want to keep the listening data and ratings.

I was able to fix it more easily than I thought: I deleted the new podcast subscription for good measure, closed MusicBee, and then renamed the 'MusicBeeLibrary.bak' to 'MusicBeeLibrary.mbl' (and deleted the original .mbl file).

This was a wakeup call on how important my podcast listening data is to me, I guess I'll have to find a way to save it somewhere that is safer.

Questions / help: lost ratings for podcast episodes
« on: August 09, 2023, 10:10:51 PM »
I lost ratings for all past episodes of a podcast, excluding those episodes that were still downloaded.  The issue was created when I added a new podcast ("search podcast directory") and this new podcast had the newer "host domain" of the podcast in question (old podcast with all the ratings was hosted on libsyn, newer verison on megaphone).  This action added a second, duplicate version of the podcast, as expected, (with no downloaded episodes and no ratings), but it wiped out most of my data from the old version of the podcast feed.   Is there anything I can do to restore the ratings?

I do have a computer backup from many months ago, but I don't know how to get the ratings out of the relevant program files.

At least one of those is working fine for me. You could try v3.5 which is available from the first forum topic

Good to know.  And I think I am using the latest version of 3.5.

I'm having a similar problem.  I get an error

"The request was aborted: Could not create a SSL/TLS secure channel."

when downloading from certain podcasts.  Some example feeds:
https://feeds.megaphone.fm/ep-hw
https://feeds.megaphone.fm/girlsnight
https://feeds.megaphone.fm/easyalliespodcast
https://feeds.simplecast.com/LoD8ifmc

I'm on windows 7 using the latest version of Music Bee (3.5.8249).  I don't know if these feeds require TLS 1.3 or what not. I  believe I followed the steps to update windows and properly enable TLS 1.1 and 1.2, although it didn't fix the error.

Bug Reports / Re: Error When Creating New Playlist
« on: May 01, 2021, 11:31:17 AM »
Ok, I think it fixed it.  I did notice some new minor problems that, apparently, were all fixed by going to "view > arrange panels" and removing "playlist directory" from "left sidebar", saving this and closing, and then adding it back.  Earlier in this thread I wasn't using that panel (which is behind a drop down menu in the upper left), and instead I was doing all my testing in the "navigator explorer" panel, which also has its own playlist directory tree thingie inside it.

The new minor problems (that were fixed) were: 1) newly created playlists would not appear visually inside the navigator panel until I went to "view > refresh" and 2) right clicking a playlist folder > new > new playlist would only create a playlist at the root folder, not the right clicked folder.

Thanks!

Ok, I replaced the existing files (and MB now says "version 3.4.7790"), and invoked the error a couple more times but the Error log still does not have new entries.  I tried closing and restarting a few times and invoking the error in between and still no change.

I am also getting the same error as OP using Music Bee version 3.4.7764  It occurs anytime I try to create a playlist.

(tested these methods:  1) main menu > file > playlist > new playlist,  2) right clicking a song and "send to new playlist", and 3) right clicking a playlist folder to create a new playlist)

There isn't anything in the Error Log that is dated from today or recent days, even though the error has been invoked today (with this version of musicbee) and yesterday (with a slightly older version).

If I close and restart MusicBee, I will see "Playlist (10)" or whatever has been created, although it will be created at the "root" playlist folder instead of inside whatever folder I initially right clicked to create the playlist.  I can create new playlist folders just fine.

The only unusual thing I've done recently (i.e. that I don't normally do) is use the "search bar" a lot to filter a couple playlists filled with lots of very short .wav and .ogg files.  I've long noticed this search bar has always been buggy in some ways (bugs of a different type, and I can't recall those errors off the top of my head), but that doesn't mean it is related.  I also recall not being able to "clear" the search very easily when I was busy doing this... I kept hitting the x button but it only closed the search for that tab and for that playlist, but it would come back when I switched tabs or playlists (my memory doesn't remember which).

Ok, I got it working after updating.  It was odd though.  At first, I put in a new subscription link and it said "scanning for details" at the bottom of the window for a very long time, so I left for a few minutes and when I came back it had the same error "could not verify the validity of the URL".  Frustrated, I immediately tried again and it worked.

MusicBee version is: 3.3.7491

I have a URL for a podcast feed (https://pinecast.com/feed/the-minnmax-show) that won't work in MusicBee, but it works in two other podcast programs I've tried.

In more detail, the exact error message in MusicBee is "Unable to verify the validity of this URL" (i.e. after by performing the steps "Add Subscription Link" and then pasting the URL into first field inside the "Create Subscription" window).  Likewise, if I try to "search podcast directory" and lookup the podcast's name on iTunes (typing "MinnMax" into the search bar), it will find the podcast but MusicBee will say "The podcast subscription link is no longer valid" in italic text on the right side of the window.

In my troubleshooting I've found that it is easy to speculate upon a possible culprit.  If you visit the URL you get what appears to be a simple, clean webpage instead of the expected, messy XML feed.  On the bottom of this page though you get the explanation:

How can I see the RSS feed's XML?

Use the View Source option in your browser on this page. This page is the feed, what you're seeing is just a nice stylesheet on top of it.

Now I only have a surface level understanding of web programming, but indeed, other podcatchers I've tried can see through the stylesheet to the underlying XML.

MusicBee Wishlist / Re: Column Browser should include the "Love/Ban" field

Hmm, is that a newer version of MusicBee?  I have the version of MusicBee listed in the download section (from July 2020), but I see more recent versions on the forums.

MusicBee Wishlist / Column Browser should include the "Love/Ban" field
« on: February 16, 2021, 09:53:18 PM »
A feature I would find useful is if the "Love/Ban" field could be chosen as a displayed field for the column browser.

The very similiar "Rating" field is already an option for the column browser, but I don't rate my tracks often.

MusicBee Wishlist / Re: Activating and deactivating Songs
« on: December 20, 2014, 04:34:47 PM »
Ok, I realized there is a very low tech way of doing this.  You can simply create a new temporary playlist and add all your files into that playlist.  It took longer than I expected for MusicBee to cope with that operation, but it worked.  If you aren't working with a single top level directory though this might end up being as much work as going through each playlist one by one.

but if the files aren't in your library it won't help.  Why not just add them?

There are files and folders I want to keep out of the Library folder, so I don't add these files to my Library.  Once a file is in a playlist it normally makes very little difference to me whether the file is in the Library or not.

I would like some help implementing redwing's idea.

The problem I've run into is that I don't see how to to copy all Love/Ban flags I've already made INTO my new custom "L/B tag".

1. Using Tools > Tagging Tools > Advanced Search and Replace looks like it might work (with Tag 1 = "Love", Tag 2 = "L/B tag"), but it doesn't.  Nothing happens after doing running this search and replace, the files are completely unmodified.  I imagine this is because custom tags are basically strings to the program, but the internal Love tag is some binary data inside the musicbee database, so the program won't take any action.

2. The other option is to use the "sort by this column" feature.  Since this groups together files with the same love/ban status, it is reasonable to highlight all of them and write the "L" or "B" to the tag manually.  The problem though is getting all your files to display in one place.

For single playlists, this is fine.  But for a folder of playlists this doesn't work.  On the left hand side of MusicBee I have two playlist folders, each containing numerous playlists.  If I select one such folder, then the right hand side of MusicBee will display all files inside all the contained playlists EXCEPT those files that are "banned".  This last point is unique to playlist folders, it doesn't happen with single playlists.

Any ideas?  I don't want to go through my playlists one by one.  Also, I can't simply select the "Library > Music" folder on the left hand side of MusicBee, because this is mostly empty (my playlists contain songs that aren't inside the MusicBee Library folder).
